Wallace McAfee Obituary

Wallace Lionel McAfee Jr., 83 of Comanche Texas, passed away Saturday, February 6, 2021 as the result of an automobile accident.

Known to most as just Wally, you could say without question he never met a stranger. Ask anyone that knew him and you would get a recurring depiction of an outgoing optimist, with a infectious positive attitude. His smile warm personality and small town talk could light up any room. He enjoyed an active retired life playing golf and volunteering in his community. He will be missed but never forgotten.

Wally was born November 11, 1937 in Graham, Texas to Wallace (Cotton) L. McAfee and Sadie Eddleman McAfee. Graduated from Lubbock High School and Texas Tech University and was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.

Wally married Ella Marie (Rita) DeLaune McAfee on May 21, 1960 in Lubbock. After joining the Marines, his service to our country landed the couple in several places before eventually settling in Houston, then Conroe, Texas.

Wally was preceded in death by his wife Rita in 1998 and his parents. Wally remarried Jane Sanderlin McAfee on June 11, 1999. They continued living in Conroe Texas before retiring and moving to Comanche, Texas in 2013.

Survivors include three children from his first marriage. A daughter, Debbie McAfee Vanicek, son Wallace Lionel McAfee III and son Michael Roland McAfee. His second wife Jane McAfee. A daughter Amy Christian, grand daughter Amanda Gillette and four great grand children: Emma Gillette, Easton Gillette, Eli Gillette and Madison Gillette.

In keeping with Wally's wishes no formal service will be held but a Celebration of Life will take place in Comanche Texas at the PAR Country Club (1658 Hwy 2861, Comanche, Texas 76442 / (254) 879-2296) on Wednesday, February 17 at 2:00pm.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to "The Wally McAfee Junior Golf Clinic" at PAR Country Club. A memorialization page will also be set up on his Facebook account for friends and family to leave condolences and share stories and pictures.

What a treasure to have known Wally. We moved to Comanche in 2015 and we met Wally the first day we played golf at Par. He mentioned he had lived in Conroe at River Plantation, “RP” as he always called it. Strange enough, without even knowing Wally, our daughter and family bought a house in RP. He was a treasured friend for too short of a time and we will miss Wally’s smiling face and sweet spirit at Par. And of course tennis ball massages ❤❤

In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will love you and miss you always. I met Wally about 20 years ago at River Plantation Country Club and besides all of his attributes, I'll always remember him coming up to me on the 1st tee and asking me to message his back& shoulders with a tennis ball. He would say" I'll do yours also". What a great person to be in the company of. May God bless your loved ones.

Rick and I have fond memories of working with Wally in Conroe. He was such a kind, gentle, fun-loving man. Our condolences to the family.
