Peter Ulrich Obituary

Peter "Pete" William Ulrich, Jr., 63, passed away at home on March 13, 2021. Pete was born in Akron, Ohio on April 29, 1957 and graduated from Copley High School before attending Kent State University's School of Music. Pete launched his career as a band director at Manchester High School and directed bands at Rittman, Firestone, and Copley before shifting to high school administration. Black River Schools, the Medina County Career Center, and Highland Local Schools all benefited from his dedication to the tireless position of a building administrator. He retired from education in 2011 to provide care for his hero, Pete Sr. In retirement, Pete, a life-long learner, earned his Doctor of Education and continued to consult with colleagues. As an enthusiastic volunteer, Pete served as an usher for the Akron Civic Theater and E.J. Thomas Hall. More recently he served in the vital volunteer position of driving and orienting new drivers in the transportation of blood products for The American Red Cross, Northeast Ohio Chapter. Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Irene Ulrich. He is survived by his brother, Scott (Julie); a niece, Katie (Kevin Johnson); two nephews, Alex (Brittany) and Brad; and lifelong companion, Elaine Reichart. Pete treasured Elaine's daughters Erin (Tim Lulich), Marie (David Borkowski) and her six grandchildren. Cremation has taken place. There will be no calling hours or memorial service. In lieu of gifts, Pete suggested taking time each day to communicate with someone you love - be they near or far. Personal remembrances are welcome and may be sent to: Elaine at [email protected] To share a Memory, Send a Condolence or Light a Candle, visit the Tribute Wall at www.billowfuneralhomes.com (Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel)

My sincere condolences to the family. I volunteered with Pete at the Civic Theatre. Pete would come up to the Balcony and gladly work any position needed, with a smile. Really enjoyed working with him over the years. RIP

To the family of Pete. So sorry for your loss. I had him as a band director when he was at Rittman. He made band so much fun. I have many great memories of the time he was there

Our deepest sympathies to Elaine and all of Pete's family. Pete was a dear friend and colleague who inspired and influenced others with his humor, wit, playfulness, and sincerity. A typical day would begin with Pete asking "How can I help?" and knowing that he meant it. He communicated often with just a look (of which he had many) and you knew where you stood. He exemplified class, graciousness, kindness, and caring in all that he did. He was also the best skier that I ever met. Pete's influence will live on through the many generations of students whose lives he influenced in a meaningful way. He would often begin a meeting with students with a sincere greeting "Good Morning scholars!" which would elicit a chuckle, before tackling the business of the day, always with sincerity and purpose. Pete loved every student no matter how challenging, and treated all with equal respect, fairness, and firmness if needed. As a friend and colleague, Pete will be sorely missed, and by all who had the privilege and honor of knowing him.

I can't believe you're gone Pete. You were always so caring, inspiring, thoughtful, and funny, After spending time with you and Mark, my face would actually hurt from laughing so much. If I had to do it again, I would want to grow up to be just like you. We have had countless good times together, and I am a better person for having known you. Rest well my friend. Until we meet again...
