Joel Larmore Obituary

Joel Alan Larmore

July 29, 1947 - January 19, 2025

Joel Larmore, a loving husband, wonderful father and grandfather, good friend, and respected leader, passed away on January 19, 2025, surrounded by his family at home in Elkhorn, Nebraska.

Joel was born in 1947 in Hastings, Nebraska, and attended high school in Kenesaw where he was one of 26 students in his graduating class. He married his high school sweetheart, Sharon Schneider, to whom he has been happily married for over 57 years.

Joel and Sharon took on multiple jobs to fund his education. He attended Kearney State College for two years, then graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder with a BS in Physical Therapy in 1970.

In addition to being a compassionate therapist, Joel was a bold entrepreneur and risk-taker, successfully investing in endeavors in healthcare, real estate, hospitality, and farming.

In 1983, Joel founded RehabVisions with a vision to provide highly skilled and compassionate physical, occupational, and speech therapy to rural communities similar to where he was raised. In 2001, seeing the need for short-term healthcare professionals, he founded Cariant Health Partners, a healthcare travel staffing firm. With trusted confidants at his side, he successfully grew the team to over 800 employees serving clients in 11 states.

Joel was known for his positivity, ability to listen, and development of deep relationships. His professional legacy is best noted by the long-tenured and dedicated team that continues to uphold his commitment to quality patient care, business integrity, and honesty.

Joel was an emeritus Board Chair of the University of Colorado Physical Therapy Philanthropy and Advisory Board and served as a member of the University of Colorado's Foundation. He created an endowed scholarship to encourage physical therapy students to pursue careers in rural communities. He founded the RehabVisions + Cariant Foundation to provide support, educational assistance, and aid in times of hardship to the communities his companies serve.

Joel's main focus was enjoying time with family and friends. Nothing brought him more joy than hosting his 7 grandkids to "Camp Nebraska." "Pops" and "Mimi" and the kids would visit the cabin on the Platte River and family farmland in Giltner, take behind-the-scenes tours of the zoo, and make memories. Additionally, you would find him tending to his koi fishpond at home in Elkhorn, enjoying a boat ride at the Lake of the Ozarks, or watching the sunsets and hot air balloons overhead at his home in Rancho Santa Fe, California. Joel was an avid Husker fan and lifelong booster of the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, sharing his love of sports with his family and friends.

He is survived by wife, Sharon (Schneider) Larmore; daughters, Amy Daniels (Rob), Emily Cooper (Josh); and son, Doug Larmore (Liz); as well as seven grandchildren, Taylor, Emma, and Carter Daniels, Ben and Elliott Cooper, and Maya and Brooks Larmore; four siblings, Lynda Clemans (Chuck), Jacquie Jackson, Becky Bottoroff, and Rick Larmore (Cheryl; nieces and nephews; and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elaine and Doyle Larmore of Kenesaw/Omaha; mother and father-in-law, Pauline and Erwin Schneider of Kenesaw/Omaha; nephew, Brandon Bottoroff of Wahoo; and brother-in-law, Terry Jackson of Kalamazoo, Michigan.

A MEMORIAL SERVICE and reception to honor and celebrate Joel will be held Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 3 p.m. at Countryside Community Church, 13130 Faith Plaza, Omaha, Nebraska. A livestream video of the service can be viewed at: http://CountrysideUCC.org/live

Joel was such a wonderful person and over the years we had great conversations. Sharon and family know that Joel was such a role model who had the admiration of many and knew how to enjoy life. Loved knowing Joel and Sharon during the years in YPO and saw him build such successful businesses. He will be missed.. So sorry he has passed.

When I was young I babysat for Joel and Sharon. They were a lovely family, sweet, kind and generous. Joel was always so nice and polite and he had a GREAT Sports Car! I think it was a Z28 Camaro. That was a cool ride for a little girl in the 1970s to make that short trip from my house to theirs and I still remember it! God bless you all.
