Demetrius POUMAKIS Obituary
Demetrius "Jim" Poumakis 80 years old, of Lake Worth, FL, passed away suddenly on Thursday, August 15, 2013. Jim has been a resident of the Palm Beaches since 1966, coming here from New York. He was employed at Pratt Whitney Aircraft for 21 years, retiring in 1981. He continued his work as a professional engineer before ending his career with Hudstar Systems. Jim was also a veteran having served in the U.S. Air Force. He was known for being a devoted husband and father, for being a faithful friend and neighbor, for his daily bike ride to the beach, and for his skill in basketball and shooting pool. He is survived by his wife of 50 Years, Lorene Poumakis; his 4 daughters, Christine (Mark) Fowler, Deborah (John Rumball) Poumakis, Suzanne (Mark Marreel) Poumakis, and Theresa (Mike Wise) Poumakis; seven grandchildren, Kate, Zach, Ben, Jake, Lily, Ian, and Ella. Also surviving are his brothers, Gaby Boenzli and Lou Poumakis; his sister, Solange Devine and numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at QUATTLEBAUM FUNERAL HOME, 1201 South Olive Avenue, West Palm Beach. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Salvation Army, 2100 Palm Beach Lakes Blvd, West Palm Beach, FL, 33409 or to the Sacred Heart Catholic School Athletic Department, 410 North "M" Street, Lake Worth, FL, 33460.

"Aunt" Lorene and family,
So saddened to hear of Uncle Jim's passing. I remember on trips to WPB I always looked forward to seeing Uncle Jim as he always engaged us with big smile and big heart. Always willing to play.
Truly one of the good men that will be missed.

The LaVogue Family have many memories of all of the Poumakis Family, including Jim. Dawn spent many hours in your home. We had great times at St. Anns and Newman. My heartfelt sympathy and my prayers will be with you in the coming days. I am sure Jim will be greatly missed by many.

Dear Mrs. Poumakis, Christine, Debbie, Suzie and Theresa,
Just want to pass along my sympathies and condolences for your loss. When I think of Mr. Poumakis, I think of the high school days and the parties the girls would have at the house. I spent more time hanging out and talking to Mr. Poumakis than my classsmates. Great guy to everyone and boy how he loved his girls.

Dear Poumakis family,
I am so sorry for your loss and will be praying for God to give you strength during this difficult time. Although it has been 35+ years since seeing Mr. Poumakis I have this funny memory of him eating liver and drink cod liver oil. He was always kind and warm and he raised a beautiful family.
