John R. Voorhis III

VOORHIS III, John R. John R. Voorhis III of Ridgewood, NJ, Belle Terre, NY, Hobe Sound, FL and most recently Richmond, VA, passed away on August 13, 2018 at the age of 88. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Janet L. Voorhis; his brother George and sister Dorothy; and his parents George and Louise (Maggiolo) Voorhis. John was born in Nyack, NY, grew up in Piermont, graduated from Tappan Zee High School, and completed degree programs at Columbia College and Columbia University School of Optometry. He practiced Optometry in Ridgewood, NJ for 35 years before retiring to Florida. A veteran of the US Army, John was also member of the Holland Society of New York, the Van Voorhees Family Association, the Lion's Club and Old Paramus Reformed Church. He was an avid golfer and spent many hours on the golf course at Tequesta Country Club and other local courses. John is survived by his two loving children Charles "Chic" and his wife Michelle of Port Jefferson, NY; daughter Amy Lenow and her husband Larry of Richmond, VA; four grandsons, Christopher Voorhis and his wife Katie of Port Jefferson Station, NY, Eric Voorhis and his wife Brittany of Huntington, NY, Joseph Lenow of Omaha, NE and John Lenow and his wife Catheryn of Louisa, VA; and two great-granddaughters, Lily and Scarlett Voorhis. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 19 from 4:00PM to 6:00PM at Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 113 S. Farview Ave, Paramus, NJ. A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 20 at 10:00AM at Old Paramus Reformed Church, 660 E. Glen Ave, Ridgewood, NJ with interment to follow at Valleau Cemetery.
