Edna Mayfield Obituary

Edna Mae (Hannusch) Mayfield, 61, of Pasadena, Texas, was called to her eternal rest on Sunday, January 24, 2021 following a brief illness. Edna was born in Tokyo, Japan in 1959, the daughter of Clarence and Kikue Hannusch. Their young family transitioned to Clarence's hometown of Smithville, Texas in early 1960. Three years later they moved to Edna's childhood home in South Houston, Texas where she lived until her marriage in 1993 to Wayne Mayfield. Edna was baptized at Grace Lutheran Church in Smithville and later confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Pasadena where she attended grade school and middle school and was a long time member. She attended Lutheran High in Houston and was a 1977 graduate of South Houston High School. Edna obtained her Associate's Degree from San Jacinto College Central Campus. She worked at a Pasadena veterinary office and at Texas Parks and Wildlife. Edna acquired her phlebotomist certification and worked at a busy clinical practice in LaPorte. She loved flowers, particularly roses, gardening, reading, fishing, and nothing delighted her more than family time. Edna endured a number of health challenges throughout her life but she did so with extraordinary grace, poise and dignity. Her beautiful radiant, smile and warm ways endeared her to all who were fortunate enough to call her family or friend.

Edna was preceded in death by her Mother, Kikue Hannusch and her grandparents, Edna B. and Max T. Hannusch and Dr. Takesaburo Sasaki and Nobue Inoue. She is survived by her daughter, Taylor Mayfield and her father, Wayne R Mayfield. Sister, Mary H. Cole and husband, Bill; and two brothers: Perry C. Hannusch; and Max J. Hannusch and wife, Mary; and by a host of nieces and nephews and aunts and uncles, cousins and extended family and friends. The family wishes to acknowledge the caregiving that her ex-husband Wayne provided in her final years. A private family graveside service and interment took place at Oak Hill Cemetery in Smithville, Texas on Friday, January 29, 2021 with Pastor Timothy Appel officiating. A memorial service is planned at Zion Lutheran Church later this year and announcement will be made once arrangements are in place. Memorial contributions may be made to Zion Lutheran Early Childhood Center (ECC), 5050 E Sam Houston Parkway, Pasadena, Texas 77505 or the charity of one's choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home & Cremations, 208 W. Pearl, La Grange, Texas. Family and friends can view and sign the guestbook online at www.lagrangefunerals.com.
