Johnnie Garrison Obituary

Johnnie Lucille, 85, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2021, at her daughter, Janis' home, in Texas City. She had been diagnosed with Acute Leukemia only two short weeks ago and passed away before many of her family and friends could see her and say goodbye.

Johnnie was born in Port Arthur, Texas on August 29, 1935 to John and Hazel Liles. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and made her home and started her family in Port Arthur. She lived in Nederland for a short while before settling down in Beaumont. She worked in the insurance business for many years and retired at age 74 from Braud, Vaughn, Williamson Insurance Agency in Beaumont.

Johnnie will always be known by her many friends and family as a loving, caring and giving person. She believed in giving to charities and would often say that they needed it worse than she did. She enjoyed cooking for others and making her famous fudge, in which she would tell everyone that "she had removed all of the calories!" If you had ever heard our mother's laugh, it would be something that you will never forget. Often loud and boisterous, she would always speak her mind and not back down from anyone if she thought she was right, as she often was. A good joke was something she always enjoyed. Nothing was more important to her than her family and large circle of friends. She would jump at the chance go to the casinos as long as she didn't have to drive. When she would win a little, we would hear about it for weeks. (She never told us about the times she lost!)

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Diana G. Cutaia, grandson Brandon S. Savoie, sister Margaret Pundt, nephews Cecil Jr. and Mike Hilton, and special long life best friend, Jackie Graham (over 70 years) and fur baby Jazzi.

She is survived by daughter Janis A. Cutaia of Texas City, TX, sons Steven E. Cutaia and wife Sylvia of Nederland, TX, and John D. Cutaia of Denver CO., grandchildren Dana Robinson and husband Matt of Dickinson, TX, Terra Cutaia of Newton, MA., great grandson Hunter Robinson of League City, TX. and very special friend and caregiver Leo Babel of Beaumont, TX. We thank him for being such a wonderful part of our lives and helping us with mother's care and wellbeing.

We want to thank everyone that thought of our mother as a friend and for the kindness everyone has shown to us in her passing. She was deeply loved and will be sincerely missed.

To follow mother's last wishes there will not be a service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Southeast Texas Humane Society in Beaumont, Texas or Boy's Town or Girl's Town in Beaumont, Texas.

This lady had a special place in my heart. She could make some awesome peanut brittle. If she knew I was coming she usually had some in a baggie for me. She’s lived to laugh and tell jokes. He laughter was contagious! Prayers for all of the family.
