Maurine Lee Obituary

Maurine Olga Schmidt Lee left this earthly life on Friday, 3 August 2018 for a new adventure. She was born on 22 November 1933 in Oklahoma City and now resides in the arms of our Savior. She was the last member of her immediate family which included her father, Leopold Schmidt, a German immigrant and building contractor, her West Texas mother, Eunice Nell Sampson and an older sister, Orma Linnette, a career Air Force civil servant. She was preceded in death by her former husband Robert E. (Bob) Lee. She is survived by three sons and their families. Bradford, wife Patricia and their daughters Jennifer (boyfriend Bolivar Fajardo Jr.), Amanda (husband Joshua Marshack), Jessica, and Karen; Ralls, wife Mary and their daughters Savannah and Sigourney; and Shane and his son Nathan. Two nephews, John and James Ratliff, also survive.

She grew up in Oklahoma City, graduated from Northeast High School in 1951, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Business from Oklahoma City University in 1955. In 1995, she retired from Rice University where she was departmental secretary in the Graduate Research Department of Environmental Science and Engineering. Among other hobbies, her favorites included genealogy and painting, but she enjoyed contemporary painting the most. As a longtime member of the Pasadena/Deer Park Art League she displayed many of her works in area art shows, several of which were juried exhibits. Additionally, for more than 18 years, she mentored young readers as a volunteer for the Pasadena Independent School District's (PISD) Helping One Student to Succeed (HOSTS) Program.

The Daughters of the American Revolution, the Art Leagues of Houston, Clear Creek and Deer Park, the American Association of University Women, and the Women's Missionary Union were among the organizations to which she belonged. Most recently, she was a member of the Board of Directors of the Deer Park Art League.

Ms. Lee was a resident of the Bliss Meadows subdivision for more than 46 years and had many kind- hearted and wonderful neighbors. Her home was always open and welcoming to children and it was a popular home base for many of her son's friends well into their late teens.

As a member of Pasadena's First Baptist Church, she attended services and Sunday school and participated in Women's Missionary Union. Of all her values, her faith was the most important. This practical faith, woven throughout the fabric of her life, was the binding that held her family together during tough times, provided them with inspiration when facing difficult challenges, and was the basis for all her virtues.

Interment will be at Grand View Memorial Park in Pasadena on 18 August followed by a memorial service at Seabrook United Methodist Church at 11:30 A.M.
