PEORIA - Dorothy M. Chadwick, formerly of Peoria, passed away peacefully as she was called home by her loving savior on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012.
She was born in Ashton, Ill., on Jan. 21, 1930, as the only daughter of Rae and Ruth (Zeller) Chadwick.
With a love for education, Dorothy received her degree from Northern Illinois University and later earned her master's at Rutgers University.
As a young woman, pursuant of her vocation, she began teaching math at East Peoria High School. Remarkably, it was there she remained throughout her entire career, educating decades of students, up until her well deserved retirement. (At a time she jokingly referred to as her "Aftermath!")
As an active member of the community, Dorothy enjoyed her involvement in many local organizations and charities, in particular her church. A dedicated lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church, Dorothy will be remembered for her eager willingness to share generously with her time, talent, wisdom and gentle passion.
Preceding her in death are her brothers, Richard and Paul; special sister-in-law, Ellie Chadwick; and nephew, Joseph Keller.
Left to grieve this great and personal loss are nephews, Robert (Bettye) Chadwick and Paul (Ruth) Chadwick; niece, Elaine Chadwick Keller; nine great-nieces and nephews; six great-great-nieces and -nephews; along with many dear and loyal friends.
A memorial service celebrating her life of love and devotion will be held at the First United Methodist Church in East Peoria on Saturday, Jan. 19, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Mary Arnold presiding.
Memorials to the First United Methodist Church have been suggested.

Sorry to hear about Ms Chadwick's passing. I had the pleasure of having her for two years of math, seeing her at church events and Sunday mornings. You will be missed.

Sorry for your loss. As a 1956 Grad, I remember her quite well. She was my algebra teacher. Our meeting was a very memorable one. At the start of my freshman year some upper class men had several of us freshman playing leapfrog down the hall near her classroom. As we pass her classroom she steps out into the hall. We received a scolding about playing in the halls. As my algebra teacher she laid a very good foundation to my math skills that I used every day as a tool & die maker. Thank you Miss Chadwick. R.I.P.

I remember Dorothy well from my days as a student at EPCHS--she was both my algebra and my geometry teacher. She was also a familiar face at the annual Thanksgiving lunch at EPCHS for retirees and the end of year ladies' lunch. I enjoyed knowing her as a fellow teacher, although she was retired by the time I began teaching at EP. She had a lovely sense of humor but did not suffer fools gladly:)

I fondly remember her when I took HS Geometry. That was my favorite math course in those years.

I fondly remember Miss Chadwick from my high school days at EPCHS (Graduating Class of 1962 - 50 years ago!). She was a tough but fair teacher and made each student want to excel. My prayers to her family and to a life well lived.
