John Walz Obituary

John Walz
MORTON - John M. Walz, 63, of Morton passed away Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017, at UnityPoint Health-Methodist in Peoria.
He was born on Aug. 2, 1953, in Peoria to William and Jennie (Madden) Walz. He was happily married to Debby (Sollberger) Walz for the past 28 years.
Surviving are his wife, Debby Walz of Morton; one son, Landon (Tasha) Guth of Morton; one daughter, Alesha (Chad) Lau of Morton; and three granddaughters, Marina and Kallie Lau and Lia Guth. He is also survived by his siblings, MaryAnn Walz and her husband, Lawrence Montoya, Carol (Jack) Gittinger, Bill (Cindy) Walz and Stephen (Cheryl) Walz; and two nieces, Penny Gomez and Francesca Walz.
John worked in the auto sales industry for over 30 years, working the last 18 years at Ray Dennison Chevrolet in Pekin.
Family and integrity meant everything to him. He was a man of loyalty and character, always giving of himself and asking for nothing in return. He would say if he was anything, he was steadfast. John's favorite quote by H. Jackson Brown Jr. is "our character is what we do when we think no one is looking."
John's hobbies included being an avid reader and the "family Uber driver."
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 2, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery in Morton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Morton Public Library or to Morton Community Bank, in care of the grandchildren's educational fund.
Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.knappjohnson.com.

Our deepest heartfelt sympathy to John's family & loved ones. Also to his thousands of friends & accquainces. I have known John for over 40 years. It was good to work with him as well as deal with him. I have bought numerous vehicles from him since he started at Dennison's. John was one super man, & it was a privilege to have known him.

I don't usually add a message for almost perfect strangers, but John was the salesman who sold our daughter her very first car, and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. We left feeling like he had treated her as he'd treat his own daughter. He was her ONLY choice of car salesmen when she was ready to upgrade, and he always recognized and greeted her whenever she was having oil changes, etc. He will truly be missed I'm sure by all who knew and met him. We are so sorry for your loss.
