Samuel Hyde Obituary
PRINCEVILLE - Samuel "Sam" Bert Hyde, 91, of Princeville passed away at 2:40 a.m. Wednesday, September 5, 2018, at Evergreen Senior Living in Chillicothe.
Sam was born on April 25, 1927, in Princeville to Samuel Bert Hyde Sr. and Pearle (Cutler) Hyde. He married Dorothy Camp on May 1, 1948, in Princeville. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Russell B. (Cathy) and Joseph A. (Julia) Hyde, both of Princeville; one brother, Dan Hyde of Morton; one sister, Joan M. Harms of Edelstein; three grandchildren, Kassandra C. (Pat) DuMais, Nathaniel J. (Valerie) Hyde and Sarah E. (Dayton) Winborn; and five great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Ava DuMais, Gavin and Jacob Hyde and Henry Winborn; and the family awaits the arrival of Abigail Rose Winborn. Sam was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Paul and Richard; and a sister, Beatrice.
Sam was a World War II United States Navy veteran, serving from 1944 to 1946 in the Asiatic Pacific Theater on the USS Bremerton. Sam was a 65-year member of the Princeville Masonic Lodge, a 50-plus-year member of the Princeville United Methodist Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Princeville Chapter of the American Legion Post #0248 and served on the Princeville Township Board for 12 years.
Sam was employed by Turner Trucking and LaMara Stone, both in Princeville. He retired from Local 649, Operating Engineers. His leisure time was spent playing bridge and gardening, but he loved fishing more than anything. Sam also enjoyed hosting family fish fries.
Sam's service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 7, 2018, at the Princeville United Methodist Church in Princeville. Pastor Zach Waldis will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 6, 2018, at the church. Masonic service will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday, following the visitation. Burial will be in Princeville Township Cemetery in Princeville.
Haskell-Hott Funeral Homes in Princeville will be in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to Princeville United Methodist Church or Akron-Princeville Ambulance.
