James Ridgway Obituary
Newark Valley - James D. Ridgway, 92, passed away peacefully at his home on Sept 21, 2018. Jim is survived by his children Roxanne Ridgway and Matt Ridgway; his grandchildren: Sheila Vedo and fiancé Al Steenrod, Martha and Jane; great grandchildren: Ciana, Logan, Shaelyn, Brianna, Leah and Daryn ; great-great granddaughter, Bella; his sister, Eleanor Van Gorder, several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, James C. and Florence (Campbell) Ridgeway, he was predeceased by his wife Doris and grandson Timothy. Jim graduated early from Newark Valley High School (1944) to serve his country in the Navy. He was proud to have operated an amphibious landing vehicle in the battle of Okinawa. Following his Naval service, Jim was employed at IBM, Owego, and retired from there. He enjoyed the outdoors-- hunting, fishing, and gardening, day trips, vacationing and searching for 'old bottles' to add to his antique collection. He was an avid NY Yankees and Giants fan. Friends wishing to remember Jim with a memorial gift are asked to kindly consider the Newark Valley Fire Dept. There will be no services at this time.
