Jonathan Husted Obituary

Jonathan Michael Husted

Minneapolis, MN - It is with deep sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our son Jonathan Michael Husted in Minneapolis on January 31 from a heart attack at the age of 36. Jon grew up in Owego, NY, graduating from Owego Free Academy in 2001 where he was co-captain of the varsity baseball and soccer teams, 1st chair trumpet in the stage and jazz bands and editor of the school news paper. He received a degree in chemical engineering from Bucknell University in 2005 where he was a member of TKE fraternity. He worked as a business consultant with Accenture for a dozen years before attending St. Thomas University Law School where he was in his final semester. He had interned last summer with the law firm Gray Plant Mooty and was looking forward to beginning his legal career with them in the fall.

Jon is survived by his loving wife Kristin Johnson, his parents Ruthie and Michael Husted, his grandmother Doris Husted, his sister Crystal Taylor (Brian Coyne), aunt Jessie Murphy (Mike Orlovsky), uncles Jim (Donna) Fredrick, Roger (Sheila) Fredrick, Tom (Karen) Husted, his in laws Sue and Grant Johnson, sister in law Erica, brother in law C.J., nephew and godson Sawyer, niece Emma, nephews Justin, Zackery and Noah, cousin Landon, and his best friend Ryan Cirbus and his dog Bucky. He was predeceased by his grandfather Mike Husted Sr., grandparents Marge and John Fredrick, uncle Rick Fredrick and aunt Suzanne Husted.

Jon's adventurous spirit found its match in Kristin whom he married in 2015 with their love of traveling off the beaten path, sampling local cuisine and culture. Jon loved discovering obscure music and sharing it with his friends. He loved to dance. He was a special man and the world is a poorer place with him gone. The time and place for a celebration of his life will be announced at a later date.

I didn't get to know Jon as well as I would have liked before he and Kristin moved from Baltimore to Minneapolis-but the few times we met, he had a list of music for me to listen to, and we loved having them visit us here in Providence. I want to thank you all for sharing him with us, even for a little while.

Jon was my law school classmate at St. Thomas and a member of my small group for each class in Property Law. When I heard he received an offer to join Gray Plant Mooty as a Summer Associate, my first thought was, "They picked a good one." Jon was bright, well-spoken and humble. He always displayed the highest levels of professionalism. His passing leaves a hole in the hearts of so many in our law school community. He will be missed, and I'm grateful I had the chance to meet him.

I am very sorry for your loss. I had Jon as a student during his time as an undergraduate at Bucknell, and caught up with him a couple of years ago when the AIChE meeting was in Minneapolis. He was so enthusiastic about his legal studies at that time, it was lovely to see him happy about learning and about the change he could make in the world. May his memory live on in joy and light for all.

Jon was an extern in my judicial chambers in 2018, and it was clear to all of us that he was on his way to being a fine lawyer. He was smart, dedicated, mature, and a wonderful person to boot. In addition, I personally had been looking forward to seeing his career unfold at Gray Plant Mooty, where my husband practices. All of us in chambers enjoyed working with him very much, and were shocked and terribly sad to hear of his untimely passing just as he was poised to begin this next chapter of his professional life. Our hearts go out to Kristin and to his parents and extended family.

What a beautiful tribute to an amazing person. I am so terribly saddened by your loss. Jon and I shared a lot of classes through school and he was always such an uplifting friend. He made jokes to lighten the mood and was there to help whenever someone was in need. I was always impressed with his well roundedness in academics, sports, and music. I feel fortunate to have known him. Sending prayers and love to your family at this difficult time.

All Jonathan's Family, My heart breaks of this news. When I see this photo I see a little boy that I loved to babysit, he amazed me every time I cared for him. To this day every Christmas we put out the white teddy bear with red scarf and hat I received for caring for him and Crystal. My family often talks about those days when I cared for children in my home, great memories it brought. My prayers go up for you all, God Bless

Grew up with Jon throughout our grade school years. I will forever remember him as one of the kindest people I've ever come across! We often had differing view points, but that was one of the best parts of our friendship because we could debate endlessly and then always be better friends because of it! His kind eyes and warm smile, and beautiful spirit will never be forgotten! My prayers and condolences go out to all of his family during this time.
