The other day I spoke with a close friend of mine who needed some advice regarding dropping out of the nursing program. It made me think about Judi who kept after me and inspired me to complete the program. After two semesters with Judi who always made me blush(that's not easy being black) she gave me inspiration and hope. Many nursing students know first hand how difficult nursing school can be , Judi was an exceptional person who made our lives simple and fun.
Judi will be missed for a very long time. God had blessed nursing students under her care. I gave my friend the same inspiration that was shared by Judi. I am now a charge nurse of a level one trauma center in the emergency room. I thank Judi for inspiring me to strive on.

Aunt Judi I miss you so much. I can remember being on the phone with you and by the time we said goodbye 2 hours had gone by!! A day won't go by that I won't think about you. You have touched so many people. I'm going to miss your "ohhhhh Gracie's!" followed by your contagious laugh when we would make fun of my dad together. Your life ended way too soon. You are one of the most genuine people I've ever known. I love you so much. xoxo

Judy, you were more than my first (and second) Nursing PRof..you were my friend. I'll always miss all the talks and "gossip" that we looked forward to after class hours, and spending hours talking with you after I graduated from Nursing School. You were the second person on Earth to find out that I passed the NCLEX. It was your sense of humor and your encouragement that got me through the beginning of school and kept me from giving up many, many times. Judy, I owe at least partially to you, the fact that I am even an RN today. Your spirit will be with me always and your voice of encouragement will be carried in my heart all the days of my life. Heaven, BRACE YOURSELF! She's awesome! Love you Judy...Alice Hoye, RN

You were a wonder to us all! You were a dear friend who supported us through many difficult times. I know you cared so very deeply for your friends and colleagues. You fought a courageous battle with cancer for the past few months. I hope you will watch over us and empower us with your faith in humankind as we struggle with our loss of a dear and faithful friend.

Mrs. Jaffe always had a way of bringing humor and fun to even the most trying days of nursing school. She made you remember why you were there & the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow when it felt like we'd never get there! I will always be proud to say that I am a 1999 graduate of OCCC, one of the finest nursing programs in the country. It is because of nurses like Mrs. Jaffe and fellow faculty, who not only saw nursing simply as a profession, but an art. A life truly devoted to the health and well-being of others, and a desire to share knowledge and experience to continue the tradition of educating top notch healers. The profession has certainly suffered a great loss, but I am happy to say I have crossed Mrs. Jaffe's path and am richer for it. To Mrs. Jaffe's family...take comfort in your memories and know that a piece of her lives on in all the lives she has touched.

To Judy's Family-
I was a surgical patient on Tower 5 ORMC in Feb. 2006. Judi Jaffe and her students were there two times that week. She and one student James came into my room. She immediately picked up on my worries and anxiety. Judi sat on my bed, held my hand and looked me squarely in the eyes the whole time, listened and then helped allay them one by one. Her presence was a personal one. James and her students had much to learn from this warm and caring mentor. Warmth, sincerity, kindness, hope and an uplifting spirit had entered my life that day. The fear and anxiety lifted- Judi Jaffe had worked her magic. James was well aware I am sure.
Judi worked tirelessly w/ her students- always encouraging them to put their newly learned skills into hands on practice. Under her "eagle eye" I saw them thrive. James and the other students were truly blessed to have an instructor so fully human and professional to emulate. I have read the many testimonies here and am consoled to know that she truly lives on in those whom she touched.
Judy asked to write the following for me on a scrap of paper- Peace and Blessing and everything good- Which you deserve. My recovery turned the corner that day. She exemplified the power of another person to touch someone and aid the healing process. My life has been much richer since my brief encounter with Judi Jaffe RN- two years ago. This world has lost One of a Kind... My Sincere Condolences.

To Judi's Family,
The news of her death brought so much sadness to her friends at Mount Saint Mary....quickly followed by smiles as we broke into stories filled with memories of many happy days and hilarious moments. With her keen intellect, with and immeasurable warmth, she connected immediately to those around her. I will never forget her! Judi's humor and her words of advice will stay with me always. You are all in my prayers.

Nina & Rachel, You had one terrific mother & she thought the world of you both!! She was always a caring, loving person who truly loved you both, her job, co-workers & anyone she came across. It is a tremendous loss for our nursing dept. faculty & students. I will always remember her endless words of wisdom. I know she is now at peace and will always be with each of us in her own way.

I had the opportunity to work with her @ OCCC while I was studying for my master's degree. She always said to go after "the cutting edge'" in nursing practice & medicine. Recently I spent a lovely hour getting re-acquainted here in the Urgent Care @ Rock Hill . She was looking forward to the birth of that grand-baby so much! On her last visit she was too ill to talk much, but still directing her energies to conquering her medcial problems.
Your mother will be missed & so many nursing students have lost a great opportunity to learn.

What can I say? Mrs. Jaffee you are truly one of a kind and I am honored to have had you in my life. Not only were you an amazing instructor, you also served as a role model for what every nurse should exemplify. We are all going to miss you, however every nursing student that you ever taught that became and RN is a piece of you left behind. Thank you.

Ms. Jaffe, always had a smile, warm touch when needed, firm voice when needed, and a story for everything!!! She could tie almost any part of a class to a story which would help one remember. She was my inspiration to return to school after a year off when I had my premmee. She was soo excited to see me making me feel so excited as well... My heart goes out to her family in this time of sorrow. My prayers are with you for a happy and healthy newborn, know now that she has seen, held and played with her new Grand baby!!

Rachel and Nina other Family members and friends,
I can only find words that describe Judy without putting it all together. Always believing in the positive of things, education, certainly growing as a human being,"becoming that much better",not holding onto the negative. A constant moving forward, the healthy side of things-LOL .She would make her jokes yet her healthy point and the ugliness of it all.Ex: smoking LOL... I can go on..A Woman of strength and fight if you will. We all know she is at her resting place and peace and if I know Judy she still is moving on....LOL a definite woman of class and Style thats for sure....Thats how I remember Judy Jaffe.....

As Associate Professor of Nursing, Judi was a unique instructor and colleague. She cared deeply for her students and her profession. She also gave full attention to each of us in individual conversation. And she had the ability to see through to the heart of of a challenge and put it into words. My 20+ years as her colleague at SUNY Orange were enriched by her presence.

"God willing and the creek don't rise", a common incantation from one of my favorite teachers/human beings of all time. What a tragic loss. My condolences to Jaffe's family and friends. I will remember her for her sincerity, compassion and relentless humor (and all the danskos and pug talk). I feel lucky to have met her and learned from her. I will also remember how she gave of herself to each student, showing concern, and freely giving encouragement, her generosity of praise were a gift to all she taught. My thoughts are with you.

Oh, Judy was a piece of work...and a fabulously lovely piece of work she was. She helped me immeasurably through my serious motorcycle accident and long recuperation and later my daughter's breast cancer. How I loved having her talk my ear off. I'm going to miss her terribly.
