Ricky Pack Obituary
Abilene, TX
Ricky Dan Pack, 54, died Wednesday, February 11, 2015 in a local hospital. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 14th at Starbuck Funeral Home Chapel in Merkel with Pastor Coleman Philley officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Ricky was born May 5, 1960 in Abilene, Texas to Colyeen (Maynard) and Danny Glen Pack. He lived and breathed music. At age thirteen, Ricky professionally started playing lead guitar for his father's band. He played for Red Steagall and Janie Fricke for several years and opened for numerous bands. He also played on the Grand Ole Opry, Nashville Now and at Billy Bob's. He was an avid golfer and Dallas Cowboy fan.
Survivors include two sons, Jonathan Pack of North Richland Hills and Jake Pack and wife Ashley of Fort Worth; mother, Colyeen Pack of Abilene; brother, Robin Pack and wife Lisa of Hawley; two grandchildren, Rylan and Addison Pack; and a large extended group of family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Danny; and an infant son, Scotty Dan.

Ricky & I played in Jimmy Peters' band at the Texas Tradition in 1981 & '82 in Abilene along with Rabbit & PeeWee Pack & Elton (last name escapes me). I recently moved back to Texas after 28 years in Nashville & l was searching the web for Ricky so we could reconnect & this obituary came up at the top of the list. I'm so stunned & saddened to learn of his passing. He was every bit as good on guitar as Nashville's finest and there was something about his choices on guitar parts that I actually liked better than those N'ville guys. I'm really sorry I'm not gonna get to you again in this life, like I'd planned to, my brother, so I'll try to be good so I can see you in the next. My prayers & condolences to PeeWee & Rabbit & all of Ricky's family.

I was so saddened by the news of Ricky's passing. He was such a caring and good person. Even with his own health problems, he called me many times to check on my brother Larry. God has his guitar player now.

Ricky was a childhood friend of mine. We had many good times together growing up in Abilene. I lost touch with him as the years went by as some do on our Journey of life. I have not met in my lifetime anyone more talented than Ricky when it came to music. He was second to none on having an ear for music. He could play any instrument he touched and play it well. My Prayers are for the Pack family, he left us much too young. God Bless you Ricky Dan Pack and Thanks for the many memories my Skoal Brother!
