barbara whelan stulp, 88 ROCKFORD - Barbara Whelan Stulp, 88, entered the kingdom of God on Oct. 16, 2010. Born Sept. 4, 1922, in Omaha, Neb., the daughter of J. Bennett and Vera Mae (Dutton) Whelan. Graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in home economics and subsequently got her masters degree in dietetics in California. She met her husband, Donold Stulp while working for Omar Baking Co., where she headed the quality control laboratory. On April 23, 1948, they were married. Barbara retired from her career in 1950 to raise her children, Jacquelyn and Janet. In 1958, they moved to Rockford, and Barbara dedicated her time to giving back to the community. Member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where she spent endless hours sewing thousands of garments for the Clothes Closet and knitting hundreds of layettes. She worked with the Shriner's Air Squadron raising money for the Shriner's Hospital for Children. Member of Alabet Temple of the Daughter's of the Nile. Survived by daughters, Jacquelyn Stulp Gernaey (Bruce) and Janet Stulp Hartwig (Scott); grandchildren, Phillip Forslund, Daniel Forslund, Alyssa Forslund, Allison Baldwin, Jason Hartwig and Brent Hartwig; and three great-grandchildren. Predeceased by husband, Donold in 1999. Memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, in Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2821 N. Bell School Road, with visitation from 10 to 10:45 a.m.; reception afterward. Private burial in Westlawn Cemetery, Omaha, Neb.
