Frank Scaia, Jr. GREENFIELD CENTER - Frank Scaia, Jr. also known as Frankie Dale from the Frankie Dale Trio, Age 74, passed away in the loving arms of his daughters on October 25, 2014 He was born in Ithaca, New York on May 25, 1940 and raised in Alliance, Ohio. He resided in Greenfield Center, New York. He retired from G.E. in 2002 after 34 years of service. He was a member of Saratoga Eagles, Rotterdam Elks and Latham K of C. Predeceased by his parents Marie and Fortunato Scaia; grand-daughter Noelle Sarah Johnsen and dear companion of 13 years Janet Rapant Children: Chris Ward, Krislee Scaia, Bonnie Ann Scaia, Melody Marie Scaia and Brandie Jo Scaia-Calderon Grandchildren: Abby Ward, Cheyenne Ward, Danitra Dale Calderon, Scaia Marie Calderon, Tiffany Marie Alonso-Scaia and Alex Alonso-Scaia Siblings: Shirley Estock-Powell and Richard “Babe” Scaia Many Loving Nieces and Nephews He began his music career at the age of 13. His first instrument was a ukulele, then an acoustic guitar and his favorite his Fender Jazz Electric Guitar. He never had a guitar lesson he had the gift of a great musical ear. He could listen to a record or the radio and it became a new song for the band to learn. He started out as the Bennett Brothers with Bobby Yothers, then Frankie & Johnny with Johnny Alden, Goodtimes with MaryAnn and Abby and Frankie Dale Trio with Dale and Tommy Giaquinto. He traveled on the road for several years making a trip to New York City to audition for Arthur Goffrey and Johnny Carson and to perform back-up vocals and music with Bobby Rydell, Little Anthony, The Crystals, Del Satins, The Chiffons, Lou Christie, Skip & Flip and the Angels. Performed with Crests- Brooklyn Bridge, Carmel Quinn, Connie Francis, Ronnie Hawkins and Jimmie Rodgers. He recorded Twice as Nice, Two Party Line and Story of Love as Knight & Day and Bobby & Frankie. There was a bump in the road when the 1950’s Payola music scandal broke. In 1961 he was asked to perform at the Canteen in Lake George so in 1962 he decided to call New York his home. His musical talents entertained us at local venues such as Brown Log Inn, Vikings, Blue Apple, Castle Club, Kings, Swimming Pool Casino, Froelichs, Shady Lane, Paramount Lounge, Hayner House and Geyser Pub. He enjoyed taking a day in the summer with his lawn chair and cooler to Saratoga Race Track and spending time at the Saratoga Racino. He loved trips to the ocean in Gloucester, MA and Misquamicut, RI; fishing and camping. In lieu of flowers dad has asked that contributions be made to The Noelle Sarah Johnsen Memorial Scholarship Fund, 91 West Avenue, Saratoga Springs, New York. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, November 2nd from 11:00 – 3:00 at Abeel’s Restaurant, 910 Rock City Road Ballston Spa, NY Dad’s words: Last but not least, thank you to all my friends and family from Ohio; Alliance High School Class of 1958, thank you for your friendship, support and love and all the fun times. To Janet Rapant’s family for all the love and caring that you gave to me over the years and making me one of your own, Thank you!!; I will always remember all of the friends that came to the clubs and let me entertain them, making them laugh and hearing them sing.
