Danny Lay Obituary

Danny Steven Lay

June 15, 1950 ~ April 20, 2017

He served in the Marine Corps and retired from Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway. He was diagnosed with dementia in 2010, and later developed liver cancer and COPD. When he could not live alone he moved to Creative Adult Family Home. Danny was very much liked and loved. He had a great sense of humor and lived a good life helping others in AA and GA. He was very big hearted and loved life. We miss him so very much. His father Dale Lay predeceased him, as did his brothers David, Ina Roger and sister Debbie. He is survived by his mother Bettie Lucas, nieces Shannon and Tara Champagne, nephews Shawn and Brett Ball, his Uncle Jack, four great nieces and two nephews.

Memorial Service Saturday, May 27 at 2:00 pm at St. Paul's United Church of Christ. Pastor Tim Devine will officiate.

Dear Betty;

I am saddened to hear of Danny passing but I am comforted knowing that he is moving on to a much brighter existence in the loving arms of our Lord Jesus. It has been a while since I've seen Danny but I know that he was not only a strong man but a courageous man as well.

Betty always know that I have had the deepest respect for you and your family. I won't elaborate except to say that Danny helped me a lot and if it weren't for his common sense a bad day could have been a terrible day.

Much love to you and yours.
Your Friend in Christ always;

Sam Hyde

I also work at Holy Grounds Coffee and was lucky enough to be able to get to know Danny. He was funny, feisty and irreverent. I can't really explain what made Danny so wonderful. Perhaps it was the fact that he was so unabashedly himself. Nothing felt better than getting Danny to crack a smile or a chuckle while giving him a berry smoothie or a big piece of banana bread. I will always have fond memories of Danny: him making his unforgettable entrances and exits at Holy Grounds, him wanting to sit outside and soak up as much sun as he can, him telling me about his experiences in Hawaii, him talking about how much he loves his mom, his adventures as a young adult and his time growing up around Seattle. He was so loved and touched so many people. i will never forget him!

It was always nice to see Danny at the coffee shop. He always had a hearty HELLO for me when I walked in. He was a kind man and will be greatly missed.

Today I found out about Danny's passing. I work at Holy Grounds Coffee house, where I met Danny. He was a regular customer and we all cared about him dearly. This sad news has hit us hard. We love and miss you Danny.
