Claude Blakeslee Obituary

Claude Duwayne Blakeslee

On December 28, 2017 the world lost a honest, kind, intelligent man and a life-long teacher.
Claude Duwayne Blakeslee was born February 6, 1928 in Denver, Colorado to Theresa and Claude Henry. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 1/2 years, Barbara, his children Daryl, Steven and Claudia, his grandchildren Jonathan and Jessica, and his nephew David.
When he was 15 he moved from Denver to Richmond, CA with his Mother and brother Rod. He graduated valedictorian from El Cerrito HS. He joined the Air Force in 1946 and was stationed in Panama as a photographer. He graduated from SF State with a degree in Mathematics and teaching credential. He taught at Benjamin Franklin Jr. High in San Francisco for 6 years, including Lux Labs and then at Mills HS in Millbrae where he taught both math and electronics, until he retired in 1987. He loved teaching and was always very proud of all his students.
Claude was an amateur licensed ham radio operator for over 50 years - WB6GHZ. He spent many happy hours talking to other hams locally and around the world. He was a member of SIRS and enjoyed their monthly meetings and lunches. He looked forward to attending Senior Focus with his friends.
Please join us in a celebration of his life on Saturday, January 20th at 11am at Chapel of the Highlands, Millbrae.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Glide Memorial, 330 Ellis St., SF 94102.

My condolences to the Blakeslee family. Mr. Blakeslee was truly a kind-hearted man, an inspirational teacher, and was blessed with an endless supply of patience. How he put up with us during our high school years is nothing short of amazing. He was always calm and took the time to engage and answer questions while getting his students to think through the problem on their own. He saw the positive in people and instilled confidence to move forward ... that far-fetched electronics project, next level ham license, an A in a difficult course ... He also had a fantastic electronics lab, well stocked with all sorts of WWII surplus items that inspired the imagination. 73's! Scott (Mills class of '79)

While words fail to capture the pain of losing a loved one, we look forward to the time when words will fail to capture the joy of having our heavenly Father return your dear one to you.

I took Mr. Blakeslee's electronics class at Mills in 1968, despite my counselor saying that they don't admit girls to the class. But that was not Mr. Blakeslee's policy, and another girl took the class, too. He encouraged us to explore and have fun with the labs. Taking his class gave me the confidence to continue with computer science and math in college and beyond. He was at our last class of 1970 reunion, and I was able to thank him personally.

I had Mr. Blakeslee for Electronics in the early 70's and I saw him often after graduation as I was the School Recourse Officer at Mills High as I became a Millbrae Police Officer. Claude always took time to say hello and to check up on me. Electronics would have be my second career choice because of him. May he rest in peace

My sincerest condolences to Claudia, with whom I attended accounting classes at SFSU, and the entire family. Mr. Blakeslee sounded like a wonderful man and exceptional human being. May he rest peacefully, and may your memories provide you peace and comfort during this difficult time.

Mr. Blakeslee was by far my best teacher at Mills High. He encouraged me to study electrical engineering in college because he thought I was a good student in his electronics class. He was the only high school teacher that offered me career advice and who showed an interest in my future career. I did not finish EE in college, but Mr. Blakeslee gave me confidence to follow my dreams. I will always be grateful for his guidance.
