Doris Boland, age 88, a long-time resident of Los Altos Hills, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2022 at Mission House in Redwood City, with her son at her side. It was a mere 40 days after her loving husband, Jack, of 63 years passed away at home.
Doris was born on September 10, 1934 in San Francisco to Michele and Virginia Oberti. She was an only child. She graduated from Mission High School in San Francisco and worked at the FBI in the City until leaving to take an extended trip to Italy. She travelled with a close friend as she visited her extended family in Genoa and Modena. She never lost touch with those relatives nor stopped speaking Italian. When she returned, Doris took a secretarial job at American Can Company where she met her husband, Jack.
Doris is survived by her son, Bob, daughter-in-law, Mary Ann, and two wonderful grandsons, Mike (Sarah) and Matt (Amy).
Doris was a tireless worker and a woman of profound faith who was driven to live out her life as a dutifully loving wife, mother, and homemaker. She put a great deal of effort into making sure Jack was well cared for. She was always as meticulously dressed as her home was clean. And her grandsons regarded her as the quintessential Italian grandmother who insisted everyone around her was well fed. She loved cooking (a passion she inherited from both her parents), gardening (which she inherited from her father and enjoyed with Jack), canning home-grown fruit, sewing, and traveling with Jack to destinations around the world. She was a long-time member of the Italian American Women's Guild (IAWG) of San Mateo and the Italian Catholic Federation (ICF) Los Altos Branch.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Mission Hospice or the Peninsula Social Club Scholarship Foundation in San Mateo. A funeral mass will be celebrated for Doris and in memory of Jack on Friday, December 9, 2022 at 10:00am at St. Williams Church, Los Altos, CA.
