Tomorrow is your birthday and you would have been 97. We remember how you really enjoyed birthdays and celebrations of any kind. The nice note left from Sandy was very special. She captured your lives in Hawaii and how you embraced everyone as ohana. We miss and love you very much....and have fond thoughts of you when at starbucks or when eating french fries or salami!

30 years ago I had just moved to Waikiki and met you in the Hulu class. After that meeting, you took me under your wing and showed me Ohana. Both You and Don introduced me to Andrew Lums Tai Chi class and we would go there weekly.
We celebrated Chinese New Year and saw Lion dance many years with Andrews Kung Fu group and I helped you (one year)make Jai (only tying vegetable to add to Jai) you did all the work but included me. I had never heard of Jai before and it was so good!!
We would sometimes go out to eat together, once we went to Aloha Bowl and had a Tailgate party (our picture was in the Honolulu Star on article about tailgate parties in Hawaii) I had never been to a real football game in the stadium.
We would drink coffee and/ or tee together and have little sweets,
We would talk about your children and grandchildren and you would show me their pictures. You were very proud of them and would look forward to calls or visits from them.
You also had lots of pictures of so many people displayed on the walls and you and Don would tell me about them.
We would talk about Japan, Hong Kong, and traveling. I would stop over your place that over looked the mountain and Ala wai Canal. I only lived a few blocks away and we would chat about life and you gave good advice. I enjoyed being together with you and looked forward to our visits.
You and Don were both my Island parents and you were island parents to others also. I was not the only one. You stretched you hands out to include many... a smile on your face and Aloha in your heart.
I moved away from the islands along time ago...and when I visit Hawaii now......I have so many Beautiful memories of Lila and Don.... They were Loved by many.
