Roger "Don" Verant

Roger Donald Verant (Don) was born March 30, 1944, and passed away July 30, 2021, after a recent stroke and a courageous battle with ALS. Don valiantly held on until he was surrounded by his family and peacefully passed away to join his family and friends that were waiting for him in Heaven. He was a dedicated and dearly loved husband of 53 years to Bernadette; a brave and courageous devoted father to his daughters Lisa, and Lori Barbarotto (Joshua); Cherished Grandfather and fierce UNO player with Gianna and Joshua Barbarotto and Kevin Verant-Zegers. Don was pre-deceased by his mother and stepfather Rose and Adolph Pardini and sister Lois Townsend. A much loved and appreciated brother-in-law to Carol and Bernie Heally and Mike and Helen Walsh, and caring uncle to his nephews and nieces. Don was born and raised in San Francisco, where he attended Epiphany Grammar School and graduated from Balboa High School in 1962. Don was in the Army Reserve and then began working for the City of San Francisco as a Cement Mason. In 1977, he joined the San Francisco Fire Department spending many years at Station 26 and then moving on to an Operator and ending his career, retiring in 2003 as the Chief's Aide to Fire Chief Mario Trevino.
Don was known as a phenomenal cook at home as well as in the fire department where he had entered, and won, Firefighter Cooking contests through the US Rice Council and Tabasco Company. He was always happy to know that some of his favorite recipes that he shared with a select few, would carry on in the homes of family and friends.
Friends may visit Duggan's Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Ave, Daly City from 9:30-10:30am on Saturday, August 14th. He will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery.
