Thomas Flower Obituary

Thomas Flower
February 7, 2024
Thomas Flower (76), of San Bruno, Calif., passed away the morning of Wednesday, February 7, 2024.
Born and raised in the Bay area, Tom was a retired electrician for the City of San Francisco Water Department. He was a man of many talents, including woodworking, sailing, horseback riding, fishing and hunting. A student of history, he took pride in his travels across the United States, diving deeper into the history of the nation. A tenacious intellectual, Tom never stopped asking questions, deeply enjoying debates about history, philosophy and politics. A mentor to many, he did not tell people what to think, but rather encouraged them how to think.
Tom was the youngest son to John and Florence Flower and brother to Jim, Jack and his wife, Joann Flower. His surviving family include his daughter, Tonica (Flower) Firth; her mother, Helen Ramirez; granddaughters, Kaileena Swan and Danielle Swan; his nieces, Kim Flower and Krystle Flower, and Lynda Rapp; and Joshua Rapp who he loved dearly.
Tom was charming, thoughtful, generous and kind. He was a good friend to many and a beloved father and godfather. Tonica and Josh both feel fortunate to have been loved, taught and mentored by him. He will be dearly missed.
Friends and family are invited to share their memories of him on Saturday, March 2nd at 2:00 p.m. at 3251 Crestmoor Drive, San Bruno, Calif. 94066.

I loved Tom. Our lives took different paths but I know that he always knew that I loved him. For some 57 years I could always count on him. Right now I feel such an emptiness in my life. I surely am glad that I had his daughter.

In the last couple years of his life, I would get into heated debates with my grandpa; and though we rarely agreed, I remember feeling so honored when he finally looked at me as an independent woman capable of having her own strong opinions rather than just his little granddaughter. I know I inherited my long limbs, my crooked nose, and most importantly my strength of character from this pillar of a man. Thanks for passing this quality down Grandpa, I know I have the strength to stand up for what I believe in- in part because of who you were.

Tom Flower was my close friend for almost 60 years. He was best man at my wedding and godfather to my older son. In all the years of our relationship I knew that I could always count on him for support and he knew the same about me.

Tom, it was great to know you.
