William Watson Obituary

William Wallace Watson III
July 22, 1950 - February 29, 2024
Bill was a beacon of encouragement, always cheering on the endeavors of others, whether through heartfelt conversations or enthusiastic outbursts during sports events. His empathy and loyalty were unparalleled, as he selflessly volunteered his time, knowledge and resources to support friends and family. He found fulfillment in laughter, respect, affection, appreciation, beauty, and leaving a positive impact on the world around him.
A memorial to celebrate Bill's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on April 20, at Stafford Lake in Novato, California. All those whose lives were touched by Bill are invited to join in commemorating his remarkable legacy and sharing cherished memories.
What is success?
To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics and to endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty;
To find the best in others;
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived;
This is to have succeeded.
-Ralph Waldo Emerson

Bill was one of those guys who was just easy to be around.

I first met him as part of the instructor cadre for the BMW club, when I'd make the trek up to No Cal to instruct for him at Golden Gate chapter driving schools; both of us being racers, we got to be fast friends (pun intended ) and we'd bend each other's ear on the phone about all things BMW. I was amazed at his technical knowledge; he'd always have sound advice to give, along with just being fun to hang out with, not to mention his erudite conversation.

I was shocked to hear of his passing while enjoying his other sport; it just doesn't seem right that he's left us so soon -- I miss him a lot.

RIP, my fast friend!

RIP Bill. Without Bill, there would not have been NASPORT, one of the most successful and desirable to participate in sports car racing series in the SCCA.

Bill was one of the three original founders, and with his dedication to what ever he did NASPORT became a household name among sports car racers worldwide.

He was a great man; generous, compassionate, loving , honest and a true friend to those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Godspeed Bill Watson, our founder.
