Doris WEEKS Obituary

WEEKS, Doris J. (Leubner) Doris Jean Weeks, a lifetime Spokane resident, passed away Dec. 8, 2020 at Faith Family Adult Home on the Five Mile Prairie. She was 95. Doris was born Sept. 20, 1925 to Fred and Dora Mae Leubner. She graduated from North Central High School in 1943. She met the love of her life, Robert (Bob) L. Weeks, at NC, and they were married in 1947 following Bob's return from 3 1/2 years of service in combat with the U.S.Army in the South Pacific during WWII. Doris lived all of her adult life in the house she and Bob bought in 1951 in the River Ridge area. She worked in banking as a teller and new accounts liaison her entire career, most of it at the branch bank of Fidelity Mutual Savings (later First Interstate Bank) located at Shadle Center, where many of her customers also became friends. She was an avid gardener and spent many happy hours in her backyard growing amazing beds of flowers and vegetables. She also spent many happy summers at the family lake cabin on the shores of Newman Lake, first as a child, later with her husband Bob and her own children, and then with her two beloved granddaughters who called her "Gogi." She was active in her children's upbringing and served on the Stadium Grade School PTA and as a Girl Scout leader and Cub Scout den mother. Doris was a friend to many, especially those in need of help or a friendly ear, and with Bob made many lasting friends not only wherever they traveled, but also with their neighbors in River Ridge. She had many lasting friendships from her high school years and stayed in touch with most of them throughout her life. As she began to decline with age in her late 80s, she was able to spend all but two weeks of her last years at home under the care of her daughter. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Bob, and sister Joy Mae (Joe) Tripoli. She leaves behind her son Mark Weeks of Everett, daughter Beth Leaming of Spokane, granddaughters Jennifer (Duskin) McNeish of Spokane and Sara (Benjamin) Wilson of Denver, Colo., and great-grandson Henry Wilson. The family hopes to hold an informal celebration of life next summer at Newman Lake if public health conditions permit. In lieu of sending flowers, please make a donation to your local food bank, animal shelter, or homeless shelter.

I had the pleasure of working with Dorie for several years at the bank. What a wonderful co-worker! I have many fond memories of how friendly and upbeat she was. She excelled at working with bank customers, especially the older ones who needed extra patience and TLC. I want to express my deepest condolences to her family.
