Jack THORNTON Obituary

Jack Thornton, 89 of Spokane Valley, WA, passed away on February 16, 2025, at Valley Hospital and Medical Center in Spokane Valley, WA. He was born in Vancouver, WA, the son of the late Floyd and Una Thornton.

Jack graduated from North Central High School in 1953. Later on, in the 1950s and 1960s, he worked for Nalley's and Wonder Bread and for the Spokane Police Department for 22 years, retiring February 5, 1987. After retiring from the Police Department, he worked as a Court Security Officer at the U.S. Marshalls in the Federal Court House. Jack and his wife enjoyed traveling to Yuma, AZ, for 16 years in the wintertime, and he loved salmon fishing, steelhead fishing, and gardening.

Jack is survived by wife, Arlene Thornton of 42 years; son, Joseph (Susan); daughters, Jill (Dave) and Jackie; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by sister, Geri Lane.

The Thornton family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Sullivan Park Assisted Living for taking such good care of him and being so patient and kind to him, especially Liz, Melissa, Bree, Theresa, and Bonnie, who have been Arlene's rock.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, February 27, 2025, at 12:30pm, at Heritage Funeral Home & Cremation, 508 N. Government Way, Spokane, WA. A Burial to follow at 2:00pm at Spokane Memorial Garden, 5909 Cheney Spokane Rd., Spokane, WA 99224.
