Mark Stuart Obituary

Mark Vincent Stuart, 66, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2023 at home surrounded by his family.
Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, January 21st at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick's Church in LaSalle.  Visitation will be in the church from 9:00 AM until the time of services. Fr. Michael Pica is officiating. Hurst Funeral Home in LaSalle is handling Mark's arrangements.
Mark was born on July 19, 1956 to Jerry and Mary Jean (Brennan) Stuart in LaSalle, IL.  He married his high school sweetheart Regina Just on December 18, 1976.
He graduated from St. Patrick's School and St. Bede Academy.  While at St. Bede he played baseball, basketball and football.  Mark received a football scholarship to the Citadel and attended for a short time before receiving a football scholarship to Northern Illinois University. While at NIU he played as a defensive safety and was selected to the NIU All Time Football Team along with many other awards.  He will always be #44 in our hearts.
Upon graduation he returned home and began his successful career at the family insurance agency, Brennan and Stuart. One of his prides and joys was BSI and the team he led.  He enjoyed working alongside many family members over the years.  Many of his clients became personal friends.
He loved spending time with his family and his grandchildren loved their "Rampa".  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. He treasured the hunting land he purchased with his dad and partners.  His dad and brother were his best friend's.  He cherished his patio visits with family while having a martini and cigar, hunting and fishing trips with the boys and golf trips with his buddies.
He's survived by his wife, Regina, daughters Jennifer (Paul) Waszkowiak and their girls Hanna and Brenna, Jamie (Austin) Taylor and their children Geno, Josie, Ellary, Willow and Westley, and his "bootsie" Jessica Stuart, his parents
Jerry and Mary Jean Stuart, mother-in-law Jean Just, brother Dr. Michael (Nancy) Stuart and sisters Michelle Kelley and Suzy (Robert) Hueneburg, many loving brother and sister-in-laws along with many special nieces and nephews.  His buddy Arlo will miss sitting with him on his Rampa chair.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Pappy and Nino Brennan, paternal grandparents Pappy Lefty Stuart and Nino Wallace, father-in-law Geno Just and nephew Luke Vincent Nicholas Stuart.
In lieu of flowers, please hug your loved ones tight and tell them you love them.

I'm so shocked to learn of Mark's passing. What a great guy and a great businessman (learned from the best, Grandpa Brennan and Dad Jerry). I truly enjoyed my days working at BSI (twice!) and the entire family embraced me and always made me feel welcome. I'm so, so sorry for your loss.

I have to share a special memory I have of Mark. In October of 1970 we were freshmen and playing Streator. Coach Gafney told us that Streator was very good at stripping the ball from a ball carrier and scoring a TD the other way. Sure enough, one our backs (not Stu) had the ball taken away after a short gain and the Bulldog player headed for our end zone. Mark caught the guy from behind, took the ball back, and ended up with a net gain of 20 yards on the play. I have been involved with football for most of my life as a player, coach, Dad, Grandpa, and spectator and never saw such a spectacular play. Thank you Mark, it was a honor to play alongside of you.
