Well, it wasn;t until tonight, while trying to find Paul's B&B, thaT I found he had passed away. My wife and I stayed at his place quite a few years ago, just after I retired as a police officer in a north Texas city. I was looking for that special getaway again and saw the news story. I am so sorry to have lost him. I thought of him often and talked of him often. What a great man he was. I miss him already.

Sheriff Hastings, you were a co-worker friend and mentor. I owe you everything for the experience you afforded me in the area of Narcotics and Criminal Investigations. You were a dear friend and will be missed greatly. It was a true honor to have known you and may you rest in peace.

Sheriff Hastings, May 18,1990. Quote" Since I am now an old timer it makes me especially proud to see that officers of your caliber will be around to carry on when my generation retires to fishing and telling war stories", was only a portion of his letter to me upon my resignation from Hays County. Well, Sheriff as you said training was important and I want to thank you and your family for the service and guidance.

My Prayer is with the hastings family.

Jeff,
May the Lord bless you and your family during this difficult time. I always had a great deal of respect for your father and the way he loved his kids.

Paul was my friend, supporter, and chief investigator in the Hays County District Attorney's Office. He was the consummate professional and the best of friends. In the DA's Office, we all loved Paul. As Sheriff, he took an antiquated department and pushed it towards and into modernization. We will all miss him. He was a great man.

I knew, and worked very close to Paul for nearly 20 years. He was not only a close friend, but someone I looked up to.

There is no question in my mind that he is now happily with his wife and other departed loved ones in his new home -- HEAVEN.

Paul, I could say "rest in peace", but resting is not in your vocabulary.

Paul was our neighbor, a sweet man. He always had the most interesting stories to tell, and we will miss our visits with him.
