Donald Johns Obituary

Donald Clarence Johns, St. Augustine, went to be with his soulmate, Zoe Ann, on Dec. 3, 2018. Donald was born to Hallie and Arnold Johns in St. Louis, Missouri, on Jan. 26, 1935. Donald joined the Army during Vietnam and was blessed to play for the Army Baseball team. After his military career, he played for the New York Yankees as a third baseman. Later, he traveled and found his home in St. Augustine. He worked for Scotty's Lumber yard.

"He was the best all around athlete I've ever met" said Ken Russell, Donald's best friend for 48 years. Donald enjoyed golfing at the infamous Ponce Golf Resort, bowling at Paul

Haike's bowling lane, hunting, fishing the Intracoastal, and playing softball for the county league.

He leaves many to miss his smile and humor. His daughter, Kelly A. Brown (Georgia); step-daughter, Melody D. Urban (St. Augustine); step-sons, Douglas Hill (Green Cove Springs) and Chris Holmes-Hill (Dallas); grandchildren, Samantha Smyth (Georgia), Stiles Brown (Georgia), Payton Brown (Georgia), Kerry Brown (Georgia), Joseph M. Benonis (St. Augustine), D. Creed Benonis (St. Augustine).

At Donald's request, his ashes will be united with Zoe Ann's at Vilano Beach, Surfside Park, at 3 p.m. Dec. 8, 2018.

St. Johns Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
