Although I have not seen Ed for years, I was saddened to hear the news of his passing. I have great memories of Ed from the days at Coquina Harbor. He was one of the most positive people I knew. If I ever needed a smile, all it took was to see him, and I would instantly feel good. Even though I didn't know him very well, he always seemed to have a genuine way of making me feel special.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

I was so sorry to hear of Ed's passing. He exposed me to so many wonderful things, ie. sailing, traveling, and how to be a giving, loving person and that was a great gift. He was not the type of person that you would ever forget. I was blessed to have known him. My thoughts are with you. My deepest sympathy for you all.

To the Brunson family and the "pretty babies"..If you hear anyone say "HE'S A NICE GUY" you know they are talking about our wonderful friend Ed Brunson....Two things you could always count on with Ed was that big beautiful smile, and his positive attitude....He loved his family and was always loyal to his friends....He also introduced my to his friend who is now my friend of 30 years Elliot Schwartz......I will miss him deeply, but will always have a smile on my face when his name is mentioned or I think of him...Good Sailing to you my friend.....Joe McVay

To lose Ed was a passing of an era. My childhood holds fond memories of Brunson, my step-dad (Ed Eckert), and Mack. I felt as though I was watching them grow-up along side me. Their sea stories were my favorite! I love the one of them being "stuck-out @ sea" , and as the waves picked up, they were attacked by fly-fish.- 1 hitting Brunson in the head. Or the time he lost the tip of his finger on the boat, then calmly asked for a drink. Then there was Corbin's. The original rat pack had the Sands in Vegas, our rat pack had Corbin's. But to describe Ed completly was done by my 4yr old daughter Reagan. About 4-5 weeks ago she needed stitches for a boo-boo, so i rushed her up to my step-dads office. We were met in the parking lot by Brunson and Jille with hugs. After they pulled away, Reagan looked up @ me and asked if that was Santa Claus. I replied, " why do you ask?" Reagan answered, "because he is so jolly!" He will be greatly missed! As i find comfort in knowing that he didnt walk to God, he Captained a beautiful sail boat through, this time, calm waters----destination-----Heaven. Love, Shannon

Dear Jille and Family,
With the event of Ed's untimely demise we would like to take this time to express our heartfelt condolences.
Ed was always a great friend and always there with an extended helping hand.
We can remember the time Ed unselfishly drove to the airport in Jacksonville to pick up our son Tom and then going by our granddaughter's, Elizabeth, and driving them both back to St. Augustine as I had the flu. That was the kind of man Ed was...always placing others needs over his own, always willing to go that "extra mile" for a friend...and he was a dear friend indeed.
I remember Ed being the "avid" reader and the books we would share and discuss over our many lunchs. There we would enjoy each others observations about books, family and life and solve most of the worlds problems during these wonderful times together. He would even smile and laugh at the worst of my corny off color jokes.
We hope you find some comfort in the many friends who are thinking of you and your family today.
We will miss Ed, he is gone, but will never be forgotten. He has passed to that great library in the sky.
With Love and Heartfelt Sympathy,
Don "The Colonel", Lucy, and Family

To The Brunson Family,
Captain Ed Brunson and Captain Morgan--two of the best sailing buddies any sailor could be with in 16 foot seas and 65 mph winds heading south to Miami. After 25 years of great friendship, lots of laughs and lunches, I will always remember Ed and consider myself a lucky guy to have known him.
May God be with Ed and all the Brunson family.

I am Ed Eckert's daughter, Lindsey, and I'm so sorry to hear about Ed. I have such fond memories when visiting my father in Myrtle Beach and we would always go to Corbin's (I loved the Chef Salad). We also went sailing several times with Brunson.
He was a wonderful, giving person who always had a smile on his face. He was such a true friend to my father Ed Eckert, always there when needed without hesitation. The last time I saw Ed, he made the trip all the way to WVa, for my grandfather's funeral. That was the type of person he was and how I'lll remember him.
Again, I'm sorry for your loss.
Sincerely,
Lindsey Eckert

Caroline, Shay and Mike,
I am so sorry to hear about your Dad's passing. He was such a special person and always was such a good friend to me. My prayers are with you. Remember my oyster dressing for Thanksgiving years ago? Your Dad was such a generous, caring and kind person with the best sense of humor I have ever met. He gave me a book once called "Barlett's Famous Quotations". I had it out last weekend laughing once again. I will cherish that book and all my memories of him.

Kay and I send our heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Brunson and the entire Brunson family and your countless close friends on the untimely passing of Ed.
When we moved to Myrtle Beach in 1981 we didn't know anyone. Two of the first "friendly characters" we met were Ed and Joe McVay at the Cockpit Lounge in the Sand Dunes hotel. Those two "rowdies" really made us feel welcome, and we are still deeply appreciative today for their kindness.
Over the years, especially the Noisy Oyster and Corbin's years, everytime we were in the same place as Ed, he would always make it a point to come over and say, "Wizeman, what the %#@* are you up to now?" Then we'd swap a few lies and share a few laughs, and then he's be off to harass someone else.
While its been several years sine we last saw Ed, our fond memories of "one a hell of a guy" have stayed with us, and they will continue to do so.
