He was assigned to Los Angeles area, serving as a prison chaplain, high school religion teacher and a gang intervention specialist. In 1992, he left Southern Calif. and returned to the La Crosse Diocese, accepting a position of pastoral minister at St. Therese Parish in Rothschild. Following a year at St. Therese, Bishop John Paul accepted his application and sent him to the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio, to continue his priesthood studies. I was in seminary with Father Dan at the Pontifical College Josephinum. Father Dan was one of the first seminarians I met when I first arrived at the "Josh" back in the day in 1996, and I specifically recall how comforting his gentle and kind personality put me at ease. May the angels lead this faithful servant to his eternal reward.

It will be 1 year Dec 25th (Christmas Day)since my mother (Bernice Corrigan Berto) passed away, even with Father Dans very busy schedule, he came to my house to give my mother her last rights on Dec 24th, Father Dan did her funeral service and one of the things he said (What a more wonderful gift could our KING receive on his birthday, than Bernice)those words still give me such great comfort and I am sure that Father Dan is a little bit bigger gift to our King. Father Dan, you will be missed but Im sure our Dear Lord isnt done with you yet, he will give you peace and good health and Im sure he has even a bigger job for you in heaven.
