Steve Goldman Obituary

Goldman, Steve, 56, formerly of Lighthouse Point, beloved husband and greatest friend of 34 years to Gretchen Niver, passed away suddenly on June 30th of an aortic aneurism while aboard an Alaskan cruise ship. Fortunately, his entire Florida family was present to share what were to be his last days, and to join together in grief and shock at his passing. Though not a biological father, Steve became a loving one to nieces, Katie and Gretchen Niver, who lived with them for the past 6 yrs. (also on cruise). Steve, a Senior Software Developer for Sun Microsystems, was an incredibly intelligent, knowledgeable, softhearted, fascinating, and multi-faceted man. He was an engineer with an EE degree from Carnegie Mellon University and a Master of Computer Science degree from UNC. He was an IFR-rated pilot, half way through the construction of a five-seat, fiberglass Velocity aircraft. Steve was predeceased by his father, Frank. He is survived by his mother, Alice (Leo Accardi); sisters, Sandy, Linda (Steve Camp), Laurie; brothers, Chris (Julie), Dave (Sue); nephews, Ryan and Justin; niece, Amy and a multitude of friends. A gathering of friends and family will be held at his home in Pittsboro, NC on July 26th to celebrate his life. Donations may be made in his name to the Memory Disorder Center, 201 E. Sample Rd., Deerfield 33064.

I am deeply saddened by the news of Steve's passing. As a fellow hang glider pilot, I remember Steve as always looking on the bright side, and always having a practical resolution to any problem. I wish Gretchen and the rest of his family well.

As a childhood friend of Steve's, I was deeply saddened to hear of his passing. I offer my most heartfelt sympathy to his family. He had recently e-mailed me at my work to see if I was the same person he had grown up with in Pittsburgh. He had found me on "Google". I regret not getting back to him in time. There is a sad lesson in that for everyone about the fleeting nature of our lives. I know he will be missed by many people. He was a warm and caring friend of such a nature that the passage of years, I am sure, only enhanced. My prayers to you all.
