Joe Stump Obituary

JOE STUMP Joe Stump, 62, died Monday, January 14, 2008 at his residence. He was born in Sidney, Ohio, and had lived in Vero Beach, Florida and Burt Lake, Michigan, for the past five years. Prior to that, he lived for many years in Toledo, Ohio, where he retired from Libbey Glass in 2003. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Suzanna (Sukey) Stump, also of Vero Beach and Burt Lake. He is also survived by his son Jeffrey, daughter-in-law Bridget, and grandsons Ryan and Ethan of Winchester, Mass., and his daughter Debra, son- in-law Ashish Jha, and granddaughters Maya and Nisha of Jamaica Plain, Mass. He is also survived by two sisters, Ann Spillers of Sidney, Ohio and Nancy Rismiller of Greenville, Ohio, and a brother, Jim, of Cookeville, Tenn. He was preceded in death by his brother Jerry. He was a warm, energetic, and gregarious man. He loved golf, biking, boating, practical jokes, and making and spending time with friends. He had an incredible gift for knowing exactly the thing to say that would make a complete stranger laugh and feel like a close friend. He was a member of the Vero Beach Country Club and the Indian River Golf Club in Indian River, Mich., past president of the South Cove Condominium Association and served on the board of directors of the Burt Lake Cottagers Association. In recent years he worked tirelessly to coordinate the renovation of the South Cove Condominiums, which were destroyed by Hurricanes Frances and Jeanne. The recently completed renovations are a testament to his hard work and determination. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother, and uncle, and a beloved grandfather. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Johns Hopkins University, The Brady Urological Institute, 100 N. Charles St., Suite 400, Baltimore, MD 21201. Please ask that your donations be directed to the Prostate Cancer Discovery Fund and Dr. Patrick Walsh. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2008, at noon at Strunk Funeral Home in Vero Beach. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11 am until the service time. A second service will be held in Sidney, Ohio at a later date.

Joe was one of the really nice guys and even though I had few dealings with him, he made a strong impresssion on me. I deeply regret his passing. He did an outstanding job as one of the leaders of the Southcove reconstruction. Without his comittment, diplomacy, brains, fairness and dedication, Southcove would not be a beautiful as it is and will be for years to come. Thanks Joe, for enabling all residents live in this wonderful building, so beautiful because of your giving of your gifts to others.

Sukey & family,
I just learned of Joe's passing Friday evening and wish to extend my condolences to you and your extended family. Forty-two years of marriage is long time together and from the words in the obituary I think those years must have been filled with happy memories that you will cherish forever.
