I have only recently learned of Dick´s passing, all to my profound sorrow. I have met Dick when I was in law school when through a recommendation by another lawyer Dick invited me to join his office on Commercial Street in Worcester as a law clerk to learn what is it about to be a lawyer, so to speak or so I thought. Dick was extremely generous with his time showing me around the court house and introducing me to other lawyers in the community whom I still often meet and work with now after twenty years in practice. Also, he would make me seat with him while conferencing with clients. The truth is that I did not really learn from Dick about what it is to be a lawyer as much as what it means to be one. Dick had an incredible presence out of court as much as in court by being himself, whether he spoke with lawyers or non-lawyers; that is, simply by being Dick. He always transcended that royal type of confidence coupled with his genuine ability to relate to concerns of others and appreciate their entrusting it to him. Another words, I have learned from him that I can and I will be able to help those that will call upon me for help. Unbeknownst to him, Dick became my number one mentor and still is to this day. I am sure Dick is in a better place now, but him being in my life, as though not for long, made it a much better place for me for which I am thankful and for which will never forget him.

Dear family of Dick Pentland,
I knew your dad because my late husband, John McDevitt and Dick were classmates at Holy cross and roomed together at BC law. I wondered why I hadn´t heard from Dick and did a google search. Your father was a loyal friend to my late husband. I want you to know, although belatedly, of my sorrow for your loss. Dick was a good man. Much love, Joanne Mcdevitt.

Sorry to hear of Dick´s passing. He was surely well known in Worcester. This is a wonderful picture of Dick with an impressive
account of his many contributions
to the organizations that mattered to him. We knew him for many years and got to play a few tennis matches with him. Rest In Peace, Dick. Sandy and Don

To the Pentland family, In 1977 I hired Mr. Pentland to be my divorce attorney. He was so patient & kind to me. When he mailed me the last papers of information, he hand-wrote the message, "Good Luck in your new life". I never forgot that. That was so encouraging to me. I will always remember his kind words. I'm sure there are a lot of other people around Worcester who he helped when they were down. Please take some comfort in knowing he'll never really be gone from you as long as you keep him in your hearts.
