Gary Batson Obituary

LEWISVILLE - Gary Lynn "Bogie" Batson, 68, passed away Friday afternoon May 5th, 2023, at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis, Indiana. Gary was born in New Castle, Indiana, on July 27th, 1954, he was raised in Straughn and remained proud throughout his life as being the town-paper-boy. He and his family moved to the Lewisville community, and he graduated from Tri-High School with the class of 1972. Bogie was a member of the Future Farmers of America and a member of their soil judging team. He worked for Chrysler Corporation, during their layoffs in the 1980's, Bogie took jobs in Chicago for Wilco-Centel, Commercial Vinyl (now Imperial Wall Covering) in New Castle, to make ends meet so he could keep his home, which he was very proud of. Bogie finally retired from Chrysler Corporation in Kokomo in November 2009. He was a farmer-at-heart and enjoyed gardening which included having a large garden "to give away." Bogie enjoyed fishing and being outdoors, hunting for mushrooms and squirrels. Bogie liked all sports and was a big Cincinnati Reds fan.

Bogie overcame a lot of physical issues throughout his life and always maintained a positive and determined attitude, many people learned from his story. He was a people person and never met a stranger. On December 22nd, 2012, Bogie married the love of his life, the former Carol Ann Murray, at the Open Arms Church in New Castle, Indiana.

Survivors include his mother, Barbara Louise (Bow) Batson of Lewisville; his wife of 10 years Carol; one son, Reece (Rachel Hurt) Hale of New Castle; little buddy, Gavin Hurt; two siblings, Sharon (Mike) Warrick of Brownsburg and Timmy of Lewisville; mother-in-law, Karen Murray of New Castle; sister-in-law, Kathy (Clay Watkins) Hardwick of New Castle; brother-in-law, Shane (Rebecca) Murray of Wyoming; two K-9 companions, Ozzie and Charlie; several nieces, nephews, and special cousins; and many wonderful and supportive friends.

Bogey was one of the kindest always to other people and so much fun to party with and go to concerts at state fairgrounds when we sat on blankets on floor and saw many great rock bands in the 70s. Will miss him much. Chiquita Worley(Chicky Hartman)

I met Bogey when I was 19 years old at Commercial Vinyl.
I give him full credit for training me to work there. He had so much electro-mechanical knowledge, and I was lucky enough to have him share his knowledge with me. It wasn't unusual when he would bring fish and food from his gardens to share with us. He was an intelligent, humble, and good friend to me. My prayers go out to his family. He will be missed.

I was 19 years old when I met Bogey at Commercial Vinyl. He trained me on the job. This man had so much knowledge of electro/mechanical machines, and I credit him with teaching me the ropes. It wasn't unusual that he would share his fish, and food from his gardens with many of us.
He was a true friend.
He will be missed. My prayers go out to his family.

Gary & I were classmates from Tri High "72" We grew up together in Lewisville and shared lots of good times and made lots of memories and had lots of laughs. I visited with him the last time I was in Indiana and was so glad to see him. He was special and will be missed by many. RIP Bogey. My sympathy to the Bow & Batson families
