Adelaide Hersant Obituary

Mystic - Adelaide Helen Park Hersant was born to Louise Desmaison Tidball and Charles E. Park Dec. 11, 1944, the first of their four children. She died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2022.

As the child of a career Marine Corps officer, Adele lived in a variety of exotic locales such as Hastings, Neb., Newport, R.I., and Beirut, Lebanon. To pursue her love of foreign places, she lived in Rome, Italy in her early adulthood. She attended prep school and college in Connecticut; she summered with family in Old Lyme and France.

Adele was predeceased by her husband, David G. Hersant, whom she married in 1968. They enjoyed a wonderful life of love and travel, living at times in Kentucky, California, and Switzerland, before coming back home to settle in Connecticut. After 53 years together, in January 2021, David succumbed to Agent Orange Parkinson's disease, a result of his service in the Marine Corps during Vietnam.

An avid world traveler, Adele was a fluent French speaker and, when needed, she was able to toss out Italian and Arabic words and phrases that she'd collected along the way. When not traveling the world, Adele was a voracious reader, which took her even farther afield. Her life's work was helping some of the most vulnerable in our communities.

Adele is survived by her mother, Louise Park Marret; and her three children, Lea Lowry, Olivia Hersant (David Moorehead), and Park Hersant (Nikki Polidori). She also leaves her grandchildren, Christopher, David, Adelaide, Desmaison, and Victoria; as well as her bonus grandchildren, Ainslee, Sydney, Dylan, Brady, and Liam. She loved them all and was impressed by what wonderful people they are. She was excited for them to explore the wonders of this beautiful world. As befitting a big sister, she leaves two brothers in her wake: Howard Park and Charles Park (Joanne). Waiting to greet her on the other side is her youngest brother, Desmaison Park.

Adele enjoyed the wonderful ride that was her life!

Adel was my case manager around 1999... she was one of only a handful of people I ever liked and trusted in her field. (As I look over my past...as a client) She really was worldly, confident, understanding, sincerely interested, and seemed to love life. A great role model. I remember her as if it was just yesterday... My condolences to her family and loved ones.

I just can't believe it. Adele was our "angel". She helped my mom and our family during my mom's last few years. My mom referred to her as her best friend as she helped her find her way past the loss of our dad.
Upholding my mom's dignity and spirit in a way only a true angel could. Through this Adele and I became very close and always made light of a tough situation. We kept in touch texting daily as she battled cancer; I never though she would succumb to it. Sending all my love and support to her children and extended family. I cannot imagine your grief. Adele - I am forever in your debt for your love and kindness. I will miss you. Including a pic of mom and Adele Nov 2019

We were very sorry to hear of Adele's passing. She was a wonderful person and was a great friend to both my parents. Adele had a wonderful talent to talk with people, find out their interests and make them comfortable in conversation. She became a good friend to my mother Carol and was very giving of her time and assistance. She will miss her and the weekly times that they spent together.

I am honoured to have met Mrs. Hersant and their beautiful family through their kindness while in Europe. They open heartedly asked me to stay with them when I was unable to travel across the border to Switzerland to attend school. I always cherish their kindness and memories.

My deepest condolences to her family.

Adele and her mom visited my consignment store every Friday for many years. They would shop and then have lunch on the shoreline. We shared many laughs over how many scarves Mrs. Marret must have in her collection. It was always fun when they stopped by and it became quite a routine. I always thought how kind it was that Adele took the time out of her busy life to drive her mom so she could get out and shop. Adele, myself and my mom who helps me at the store all became close and I am very heart broken to hear of her passing. She was a big personality and I always enjoyed her stories of travel and of her children. I send my deepest condolences to Mrs. Marret and Adele's extended family. Thinking of you during this tough time. Myshel and Garrett Enman

Olivia, Lea and Park,
Your mother has been a role model for me since the day I met her when we all lived in Kentucky. Beautiful, brilliant, accomplished, talented and kind, she will be terribly missed. I am so sorry I did not get to see her since my move to Connecticut but am grateful for our recent text exchanges. Of course, her enthusiasm and optimism came through her writing and I am so glad she had a lovely holiday with her family. Thinking of you all. Love, Tante Kerry

Outside of your parents, there are few people who have such a significant and lasting role in your life.
For me, Adel was one of those people. First as my counselor when I was being forced to try and get sober. She didn´t let my attitude disused her from chipping away at my defenses.
After she retired and when I was in a better place, she saw me weekly, as a friend and confidant. Always lovingly pushing me to to be better.
The week before she passed, I was able to give her some good news about another milestone in my almost 4 years sobriety.
To say she helped save my life, would be an understatement. To say she was my friend and I loved her, is not.
Thank you dear lady for everything.
