John McNamara Obituary

John R. McNamara, MD
John ("Jack") McNamara, 88, of Trumbull, Connecticut, passed away on September 27th, 2024, after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Ellen (Wallace) McNamara as well as his three children, Kevin T. McNamara, John R. McNamara Jr., and Elizabeth M. Remson; his two daughters-in-law, Jennifer McNamara and Lois McNamara; and 7 grandchildren, Brianna Flanagan and husband Sean Flanagan, Alexandra McNamara, Lauren McNamara, Kevin Remson, Matthew Remson, Ian McNamara, and Jack McNamara. Jack was predeceased by his daughter, Mary Ellen Lutz, as well as siblings Dennis McNamara and Diane Fields.
Jack was born on December 2nd, 1935, to Raymond and Margaret McNamara in Hightstown, New Jersey. He graduated from Hightstown High School in 1953 and went on to study Biology at St. Joseph's University. After graduating from St. Joseph's, Jack attended Georgetown University School of Medicine, where he received his Doctor of Medicine.
Jack had a rich medical career, during which he won a number of awards and special appointments. He began his career as an intern at St. Vincent's Hospital, where he first met Ellen, and went on to complete a part-time fellowship in neonatology at Yale University. He is best remembered for his time as the Chairman of Pediatrics at Norwalk Hospital. Jack proudly served as Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy from 1966-1968 in Charleston, South Carolina.
In addition to his medical career, Jack was a master of hobbies: golfing, reading, taking daily walks on Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk, and model ship building; the latter of which allowed him to exercise the precision and attention to detail that made him an excellent doctor throughout his career.
Though he had many professional successes, Jack's greatest pride came from his family, which he deemed his biggest joy and greatest accomplishment. Jack was happiest in Amelia Island, Florida, where his family vacationed for many years. He is remembered for his sharp wit, honesty, and warm, optimistic spirit.
His Funeral Mass will be held 11AM on Tuesday, Oct 1, at the Church of St. Thomas the Apostle, 203 East Ave, Norwalk. Burial will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale New Haven Health, 35 Park Street, New Haven, CT.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Although I don't remember much since I was very young, I know that Dr. McNamara was my pediatrician. May he rest in peace, and may your family find comfort in knowing he touched many lives.

My deepest condolences for my beloved Uncle Jack. I have fond memories of our gatherings on Appletree Lane. Uncle Jack always would make me smile and laugh. Our trip to Amelia Island was wonderful, he brought me to be his caddy on the golf course. We had so much fun. He always complimented me on my photographs. Uncle Jack was an all around wonderful man. I will miss that wonderful smile and his positive insights. Thank you for being an amazing uncle. May you rest in peace.
Much love and condolences for the family.

My condolences to the McNamara family. If it´s the same Dr McNamara, I couldn´t have been more than 3 years old when he was my pediatrician at the office on Mott Ave in the early 70s. However, I remember calling him "Dr. Merry Mac Mac." May he rest in peace.

Dear Ellen, Beth, John, Kevin -

I am so very sorry to hear this. Just found a picture of my dad and me in Ireland about an hour ago, and emailed Beth.

I tried to make it up there for the funeral mass too, but that is just not going to work, and I am so sorry. I am definitely there in spirit, sending you all my love.

Dr McNamara was a great man, and loved his family very much. Sending you all the peace and support you need right now.

I am definitely there in spirit, and you are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Love,

Barbara (Bobbie) Kinsella Krag
