LAKELAND - Arthur M. Dees, Jr., age 78, of Lakeland passed away Monday, September 27, 2010 at his home after a brave battle with leukemia.
Mr. Dees was born in Arcadia, FL to his late parents, Arthur and Ruby Dees. After 20 years of dedicated service in the United States Air Force, he retired and settled with his family in Lakeland in 1969. He was then employed by Publix for 20 years, and retired as their Fleet Safety Inspector in 1998.
Anyone close to Art knew he loved the outdoors. He was always planning his next hunting/camping trip, and enjoyed taking road trips in their RV. He was also very active in Masonic Lodge #338 of Kathleen, FL, and was a member of the Camp Misery Hunting Club.
Art was the leader of his family. He was the beloved husband of Hazel Dees. Loving brother to his sister Johnnie Mae Rogers, brothers Jimmy Dees and Ormond Dees, and preceded in death by his brother Robert Dees and sister Polly McIntyre. He was the devoted father of his daughters Susan Shirah and husband Ricky, and Jennifer Lipham and husband Avery. He was also the proud Granddaddy of six grandchildren and Great-Granddaddy of seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wed. 9/29 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lanier Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thurs. 9/30 at Kathleen Baptist. Interment at Socrum Cemetery.

Hazel & Family.I Know times are rough and Art will be greatly missed.Art will always remain in everyone's heart and thoughts. He was a really nice cousin even though I wasn't never around much. I know Aunt Lela and others will welcome him with open arms until you all can be together again.

My thoughts and prayers are with all the family. I remember him very well and I know Hazel and all the family and friends will miss him greatly. Josh and Mandy loved him so much. May God comfort your hearts during this trying time.
