CAROLINE Hyde Obituary

CAROLINE LOUSIE HYDE

AUBURNDALE - Mrs. Caroline Lousie Hyde, age 91, a resident of Auburndale, FL, passed away Friday, January 15, 2021 at home surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Hyde was born January 2, 1930 in Kane, PA to Earl and Martha (Cook) Woods. She was a Winter Haven and Auburndale, FL. resident since 1983, coming from Kane and James City, PA. Caroline was of the Catholic faith. She graduated from Clarion State College with a Master's Degree in Education and taught in the Kane Area School District in Kane, PA. Mrs. Hyde was dearly loved and fondly remembered by all her former students and colleagues. Her classroom was a welcoming sanctuary for her students. She was thrilled each time she would see the children excited about a topic being discussed, wanting to learn more, and seeing their eyes light up because they understood a subject. Not only did her students learn academically from her, they also did many fun activities. She taught them how to polka and square dance. The students earned 'Hyde Dollars' throughout the week. Every Friday, an auctioneer came to her classroom to auction items to buy with their Hyde dollars. The children were so excited to learn math this way. She is also remembered for her famous popcorn parties with her special, secret seasoning.
Caroline (a.k.a. 'Gram' or Aunt Ki') never missed the cold temperatures of PA and always made sure everyone knew it! After full-time substitute teaching in Florida, she began to devote her time to hosting traveling family and friends that came to enjoy the warm Florida weather, beaches, and local them parks. Gram always made sure not to miss her own summer pilgrimages back home to PA where she resided at the New Thompson House.
Gram was loved by and absolutely devoted to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and extended family. She enjoyed life to its fullest and cherished spending time with her family and friends. She loved to yodel, polka, play bridge, bowl, go for long walks, and talk politics. She was a voracious reader, challenged herself daily with crossword puzzles, and was highly competitive...those of you who played against her in any game would remember! Gram was fun loving and she even yodeled at her 90th birthday party last year!
Caroline was a vibrant, extraordinary, bright spirited lady who lived life with zest. She was classy and loved the glitz, glamour and sparkle. She was always ready for an adventure, forever young at heart. When she turned 74 and met her companion Martin 'Ray' Moore, whom she shared her life with for 10 years, she decided to take up some of Ray's passions (meeting with the Boating Club, cruising, joining the Moose Club, and summering at their cabin in the mountains of Glenville, NC).
Caroline was a friend and mentor to the young and old. She inspired joy and confidence in others with her easy going nature, warm compassion, sparkling wit and quick sense of humor. She naturally found connections with everyone she met and ensured no one felt excluded, alone or without love. She formed many kinships with her kindness and empathy. She opened her home to everyone...just ask her friends of Ariana Harbor, whom she would always attempt to lap during one of her pre-dawn speed walks.
Caroline was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Stanley Joseph Skerl, her second husband, Thomas D. Hyde, three brothers: Gordon, Elmer and Earl Woods, one sister, Hazel Marconi, a stepson, Thomas Hyde, Jr. and her companion, Martin 'Ray' Moore.
She is survived by her loving family: daughter Pamela Karlene (Gary) of Kane, PA, son, Joseph Stanley Skerl (Chris) of Auburndale, FL, three grandchildren: David (Chad), Douglas (Brittany), and Katelyn and two great grandchildren, Bryce and Finnley. She is also survived by her sister, Alice Leonhart and a niece, Judith Marconi Castle of Orlando, who was like a second daughter to her. Aunt Ki is survived by Judi's family: great nephew, Andrew, three great nieces: Tammy, Trisha, and Tiffany, three great great nephews: Cyron, Andrew, Jr. and Greyson, and two great great nieces, Caroline and Ainsley.
Caroline is also survived by her second family, who she dearly loved as her own: stepdaughter, Beatrice (Tommy) Kilgore, stepson, Christopher (Jill) Hyde, three step grandchildren: Brett (Erica), Sara (Dan), and Dustin and four step great grandchildren, Cale, Ella, Isabella, and Danny.
There are no services scheduled for Mrs. Hyde at his time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Caroline Hyde's name to: Friends Memorial Library, 230 Chase St., Kane, PA. 16735 or a charity of the donor's choice.
