Stephen Ludlow Obituary

LUDLOW, Stephen "Steve" John, 73, of Hartfield Virginia passed February 16, 2024. Born May 2, 1950 to Frederick J. Ludlow and Grace J. Ludlow in Bath, England Steve is survived by his loving and devoted wife Janet B. Ludlow, his daughter Sarah L. McCurry (husband Robert), his son Robert L. Ludlow (wife Ashley), his four grandchildren Spencer McCurry, Connor McCurry, Linden Ludlow and Theodore Ludlow as well as his sister Susan Kunze. Steve never was one to sit still, even to the very end. He took a once in a life opportunity to work on the back deck of a seismic ship and ran with it, rising to President and Chief Executive Officer of Digicon Inc. and Chief Operating Officer and Vice-Chairman of the Board of Veritas DGC. Steve prided himself on being able to tackle any challenge. He was as comfortable in the bowels of the engine room in a seismic ship as he was in the board room or speaking in front of thousands. If he wasn't working you would find him on the water with his family sailing or tinkering with his boats. He loved to travel, seeing six continents during his lifetime and passing on his passion to see new places and experience new cultures to his children and grandchildren. He loved learning. Steve lived by the motto that he needed to learn at least one new thing every day and apply the knowledge. Steve spent his retirement with Janet on the water surrounded by his grandchildren, enjoying teaching his grandchildren about the world, telling them tales of his many adventures and supporting them in their individual pursuits. Steve will be laid to rest in Hollywood Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Deltaville Maritime Museum.

Janet, you have my deepest condolences. Steve was a larger than life personality. He never forgot his roots and that coupled with his personality made for great rapport with people. He was willing to talk to all of us- the open door policy- and take chances on people. You always knew where you stood with him. And he could still give you grief when you least expected it. RIP Steve

I was so sorry to hear of Steve's death. I worked with him for years at Digicon and Veritas. Steve was a pleasure to work with, always positive, encouraging and cheerful. He was full of ideas, we'd always say if you didn't like one of Steve's ideas wait 10 mins and another one would come along! He was always friendly with everyone and organised many social get togethers. My thoughts and best wishes to all his family.
