Virginia Combs Obituary

COMBS, Mrs. Virginia Roslyn Cosby, passed quietly on Saturday, April 1, 2023, six months prior to her 100th birthday. She joins her husband Lewis of "66 years, four months and 12 days," as she frequently said.

Virginia was born in a farm house on Old Gun Rd., Bon Air, Va. in 1923, to Eston E. Cosby and Lucy Heath Cosby. In December 1944 she married her soulmate Lewis W. Combs at Bon Air Methodist Church, where her parents were founding members and Lewis later built three phases of the church and donated the first steeple. Later the couple moved to a home on the Robious Rd. end of Old Gun where Lewis was fond of saying "you were born on one end of Old Gun and will die on the other." Virginia was born on a Sunday and was in church the next Sunday. She was the longest-living lifetime member of BAUMC at her death. Her survivors include her five children and their spouses, Elizabeth Combs Kane, Lewis Combs Jr. (Dubby) and wife, Dottie, Linda Combs-Fina and Dr. Les Fina, Betty Combs Sedia and Rick Sedia, Sandy Combs Baily and Tim Bailey; plus 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Mae Cosby Smith; and a brother, Eston E. Cosby Jr.

A family and friends reunion on the Fourth of July (Lucy Cosby's birthday) was a joy to host for more than 55 years, and grew to more than 125 people some years.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Donations in her name can go to BAUMC or your favorite charity.
