HABANSKY, William Stephen, Sr., 91, of Mechanicsville, went home to be with His Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 10, 2022. He was born on March 23, 1931 in Bridgeport, Conn., and was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen William Habansky and Mary Chirsky Habansky. He was a loving, proud and devoted father to his four children, William S. Habansky (GiGi), Lynne H. Lewis, Linda H. Cunningham (Richard) and Tish. He was also a loving and proud Gramps to his 11 grandchildren, William Habansky, Robert Habansky, Steven Habansky, Jared Lewis, Lyndsey Bisch, Katie Finn, Richard Cunningham, Kellyn Hubley, Stephen Cunningham, Micaela and Milahna; and 15 precious great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his younger sister, Patricia Habansky Reyes of Mesa, Ariz., who he always had a special big brother/little sister relationship with since they were children. He had nieces, Kim, Susan, Sierra and a nephew, Brian in Mesa, who adored him and will miss him greatly. He will be greatly missed by many dear friends and family, one of whom was very trusted and devoted, and he saw as one of his own. William graduated from Stratford High School in 1949 and went on to attend the University of Connecticut, where he excelled in basketball and football. Upon graduation in 1953, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was released from active duty on Flag Day, June 14, 1955. Years later, while raising his family, Bill went back to college at Virginia State University to receive his master's. He raised his family in Colonial Heights, Va,, and attended Immanuel Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon. William enjoyed golf, basketball, reading, listening to polka music, going to the beach, playing Cribbage and following Virginia Tech Hokies Football. He refereed many basketball games in the tri-city area during the 70's. William was a very active member of the Colonial Heights and Petersburg community and loved by everyone. He retired from Brenco, Inc. in Petersburg as a Manager of Purchasing. Upon moving to Mechanicsville, William started attending Cool Spring Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 24, at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee Davis Rd., where a memorial service will be held at 3 p.m.

Dad,
Not everyone is blessed to have such a father daughter relationship like we did. I'm so thankful the Lord allowed us that amazing gift. When you left me, a part of me went with you. I will never be the same. My heart will forever be broken because I lost you. You are in my heart forever and I will see you again one day. We did have a very strong love and I will cherish that and carry it with me forever! I love you dad and I miss you so very, very much!! Love. Your "Sugs"

I called on Bill as a sales rep back in the late 70´s and early 80´s. As a young woman who encountered some resistance in the business world at the time, Bill was kind, encouraging and became a friend. He was definitely one of the "good guys"!
