Carol Miller Obituary

Carol S. Miller

Age 89, of Dover, died peacefully Wednesday, July 7, 2021, in Community Hospice Truman House, New Philadelphia, following a period of declining health. Born July 3, 1932, in Cleveland, she was a daughter of the late Claude and Bernice Fisher Seeley. Carol graduated from Mayfield High School and went on to earn her bachelor's degree from Baldwin-Wallace College. She taught elementary school in Beachwood, and, on July 24, 1954, married Dean F. Miller. The couple resided in Dover where Carol taught at East Elementary School, and later, for many years, at St. John's Preschool. Carol was a loving wife and mother - and later - grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an excellent cook, and liked to sew and quilt. Carol loved the outdoors, particularly watching and feeding the birds around her home and tending her flower garden. She also loved going fishing, and some may be surprised to know that she hunted deer with a crossbow well into her eighties. She was an active member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Dover for 64 years. Carol gave freely of her time and talent, volunteering for the American Red Cross, Union Hospital's Mobile Meals, Greater Dover-New Philadelphia Food Pantry, Schoenbrunn Village, and, when her children were young, as a Girl Scout leader. She also served as a school crossing guard in Dover.

Carol will be dearly missed by her children, Steve (Diane) Miller of Dover, Peggy (Scott) Marshall and Janet (Chuck) Albaugh, both of New Philadelphia, and Dale (Lee Ann) Miller of Strasburg; her grandchildren, Tyler, Ethan, Josh, Shawn, Kyle, Alyssa, Anthony, Jenna, Mark and Ellie; her nine great-grandchildren; her sisters, Sally Borden of St. Paul, Minnesota, and Sue (Bob) Morris of Port Clinton; and her nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dean, on April 14, 2018; her son, Doug Miller, on April 28, 2020; and her granddaughter, Sasha Miller.

Honoring Carol's wishes, she will be cremated. The family will greet guests at a memorial visitation in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, on Saturday, July 17, 10 - 11 a.m. A service will follow at 11, officiated by Pastor Dotty Hartzell. Carol's cremated remains will be buried privately in Dover Burial Park with her husband, Dean, and son, Doug. Carol's family suggests that contributions in her memory be made to St. John's United Church of 409 N. Wooster Ave., Dover, OH 44622, or Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave. S.W., New Philadelphia, OH 44663.

This was fine and honorable woman. I first met her during election duties, and my fiance, Brad Waldenmyer, has known and appreciated her many, many years. May God rest her soul, and may Carol spend eternity with her husband, Dean.
With sympathy, Brad and Robin
