Dale Alix Obituary

Alix, Dale J.
GREEN ISLAND - Dale J. Alix, 73, passed away suddenly on July 1, 2023, while vacationing with his family.
Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Warren and Virginia (Albert) Alix. Dale was a graduate of LaSalle Institute, class of 1967. He would go on to marry the love of his life, Jill Leonard Alix, on September 17, 1978, in St. Joseph's Church in Green Island. During his working career, Dale owned and operated Alix's Tavern, bartended on Sundays at BeeCee's, worked in the kitchen at the Albany County Correctional Facility, and in retirement, worked for his son Michael at Luizzi Companies.
Dale was a sports fanatic, a baseball enthusiast, and a faithful fan of the San Francisco Giants. He was a member of the District 14 - 1960 Little League championship team with his dear friend Joe DiFabio, and a beloved coach for the Green Island Little League. For many years, Dale coached varsity baseball for Heatly School and was a 20-year member at Van Schaick Country Club in Cohoes. Dale was most proud of his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed any time spent with family and friends, especially vacations with the Karwiels to Wildwood, N.J. and Sunday dinners. The memories made will forever be held by those fortunate enough to take part in an Alix family vacation or a "Sunday Funday."
Dale was a father figure to many and affectionately known as "Pop," to not only his grandchildren but their friends and family. He was and will always be his grandchildren's biggest fan. He rarely missed a game, was a staple in the crowd, and continuously beamed with pride.
Dale is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jill Alix; his children, Abby (Tanya) Alix-Hansen, Maggie Alix, Michael (Amy) Alix and Daniel (Christina) Alix; and his cherished grandchildren, Jordan, Maddisyn, Mack, Taylor, Tucker and Claire. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and dear friends. In addition to his parents, Dale was predeceased by his brother, Douglas Alix.
Calling hours for Dale will be held on Thursday, July 6, from 4 - 7 p.m. at The Bowen & Parker Bros. Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Rd., Latham. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 7, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Waterford.
Those wishing to remember Dale in a special way may make memorial contributions in his name to The Green Island Little League, P.O. Box 1538, Green Island, NY, 12183.

I worked together with Dale for a few years at the Albany Correctional Facility. He was one of the hardest workers I have ever known. Never a complainer, but a self reliant problem- solver...tough, but good-hearted, just man with a lot of integrity, whom we: co-workers deeply respected. He passed way too young and will always be missed by all.

Our sincere condolences to the Alix family on Dale´s passing. We remember him and Jill as our neighbors and Dale dressing up as Santa Claus and listening to our children ask for what they wanted for Christmas. Let the fond memories of Dale sustain you in this time of sorrow and loss.

Dale became my friend working together at the Albany County Correctional Facility. It was a tough place to work but we shared a passion for sports which carried us through some tough times. Dale was a dedicated worker who never took a day off. I felt lucky to be his friend with his knowledge of baseball he was a guy I really respected. To Jill and family my condolences and may God comfort you all at this most difficult time.
