Eric Alexander Searcy

Eric Searcy Obituary

SEARCY Eric Alexander (Alex) Searcy left our world August 12, 2009. He was 28 years old and survived by his father and mother, Eric and Debra Searcy, brother Matthew and sister Andrea. Alex's lust for excitement led him to a great trip to the Bahama where he passed away pursuing his great adventure. He was and always will be bigger than life. Alex was born September 12, 1980 in St. Augustine where he grew up and was a life-long resident. He graduated from St. Augustine High School in 1999 and joined the U.S. Army in September 2000. He served his country in the Old Guard in Arlington National Cemetery. During the horrific September 11th events. Alex was on special detail at the Pentagon among the first to help secure and evacuate those inside. After his honorable service for four years he returned to his hometown where he attended St. Johns River Community College. His presence could best be described as a comet, burning fast and bright for a short time in our world, but forever burning bright in our hearts. Everyone that knew Alex appreciated his passion for living, making sure there was never a dull moment, and always and adventure lined up. Alex truly loved and cherished all those who are missing him right now. We love you Alex- you'll always live on in our hearts. Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Wednesday at Memorial Presbyterian Church, Reverend Dr. Dudley Weaver, Pastor officiating. Visitation will be held 6-8 PM Tuesday at Craig Funeral Home. Flowers are gratefully declined, contribution may be made in his memory to the Nature Conservancy, www.nature.org or a nature/wildlife charity of your choice. Dearest Eric & Family, I just got the news about Alex this past weekend and my heart just broke. There's nothing I can say or do to ease your pain, but know that I pray with all your friends and family for peace and comfort to your broken hearts. You know it is not the end - you will see him again, and in just the twinkling of an eye for Alex. God love and comfort you.

To Alex's Family,
I have been keeping you in my thoughts and prayers since I heard of the accident. My son, Jesse Brooks, had the wonderful opportunity to work with Alex at Ponte Vedra this summer. Although I never met Alex, Jesse spoke often about him. He sounded like a truly wonderful young man. I know that Jesse's life was truly enriched by their time together. When Jesse told me the horrible news, my heart was broken. Jesse was devastated. I can't imagine your pain and I will continue to pray everyday for you all. If you ever feel that you would like to talk with Jesse his phone number is 321-698-9994. He attends UNF and lives in Jacksonville. He's still working at Ponte Vedra. May God Bless you all and bring you peace and comfort. Love and Prayers, Bernie Brooks (Jesse's Mom)

I had just met Alex in March when we went on a date. We instantly became friends and kept talking. We were supposed to go out again when he got back from his trip. I'm so sorry for your loss. He was such a nice person and always making some kind of joke. I only knew him a few months, but I'm glad I got the chance to know him for that period of time. He was a great guy and will be greatly missed. He's in a better place.

Dear Debbie, Eric and family,

My heart reaches out to you all as you cope with the loss of your beloved Alex. Reading about his life is truly inspiring, and emphasizes what a huge loss you have to endure. Love never dies, and Alex has missions that go beyond this earth plane. I pray that there be some comfort for you in memories of Alex, and in the hope that your journey together does not end on this planet, but goes beyond time and space as we know it. I believe he still exists, but in a form that now allows him to do the work he has prepared himself for.

I met Alex in my neighborhood, he was dating a lovely girl, and then I saw him at the gym 5 a.m. He was so pleasant, helpful with advise, nutrition, and a big smile. I was saddened to read in THE RECORD of his sudden passing. He is with God,and God knows why he took him so soon. Be at peace Alex, and to the Searcy family, you raised a fine man, you will see him one day in Heaven.

Eric and Debbie,
Over the years we personally have not been real close, but I feel I've grown up with you through Tom. My husband and I had this very similar pain in Sept. of 2005 when we lost our 23 year old son to Jesus. Please feel peace in your faith in the lord and know that all things do happen for a reason. I know that nothing said can take away the horrible heart ache, but knowing that they're with Jesus and right with us at all times does help. God bless and we send our love. Kim
