Howard L. Meiser Jr.
Howard L. "Hoodie" Meiser Jr., 65, of Jim Thorpe, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, Jan. 17, in the St. Luke's Hospice House, Bethlehem. Born on Dec. 18, 1951, he was a son of the late Howard and Beatrice (Heater) Meiser. He attended Salem Bible Fellowship Church, Lehighton.A 1970 graduate of Weatherly Area High School and a graduate of Kutztown University, he served in the Naval Reserves for eight years.
He was a "free spirit" and lived life to its fullest. He enjoyed biking, tennis, hiking, fishing, wiffleball (years ago), basketball, running and traveling. He loved music, attended many concerts over the years and enjoyed writing poetry.
A former member of the Hazleton Chess Club, he loved teaching and playing chess and participated in many chess tournaments.
He coached tennis at Penn State-Hazleton and the cross-country team at Weatherly High.
He was very sociable and enjoyed time with family and friends.
Surviving are a sister Linda, wife of Don Tomko of Weatherly; a brother Richard of Conyngham; and three nieces, Leah Tomko, Laura Remillard and Brandy Meiser.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Carol Wolf; and a nephew, Stephen Tomko.
Service: Memorial service 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, Salem Bible Fellowship Church, 1105 Fredericks Grove Road, Lehighton. Private interment, Union Cemetery, Weatherly. Call 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, in the church. Arrangements by Hillary Bonin Funeral Home, West Hazleton. Contributions in his name may be made to the C.M. Schwab Restoration Project, P.O. Box 150, Weatherly, PA 18255.
