Doris Durr Obituary

Doris Mae Durr

04/16/1934 - 04/15/2021

Doris Mae Durr passed away Thursday, April 15, 2021 at home in Oregon, Ohio. Doris was born in Swanton, Ohio on April 16, 1934 to George and Rosella Degenfelder. She was one of four daughters and she stayed extremely close to her sisters throughout her life. Doris graduated from Swanton High School, where she was a cheerleader and where she met her future husband, Donald "Dewey" Durr. They married in 1955 and for the next 20 years, they traveled the world, including Okinawa while he served their county in the Army. Doris took much pride in being an Army Wife as well as being a devoted mother. Together, they had and raised five children. Doris always made sure her children were happy and adjusted with every move. Dewey retired from the Army in 1976 and they made their home in Perrysburg, Ohio. Doris continued raising their five children, but now was able to spend time with her sisters and become active in her church. Her faith was always very important to her and she loved being active at Saint Rose in Perrysburg, Ohio. Doris was married to Dewey until his passing in 1988. A few years later, she met the second love of her life, Walter Schuhmacher. They spent the next 20+ years dancing and traveling. The highlight of their week was dancing at the Elks every Friday night and attending mass every Sunday morning and having breakfast at Reynolds Garden Café.

Doris was always a wonderful, involved, and loving mother and grandmother and leaves behind her five children, Cindy (John) Meyers, Gary (Kathi) Durr, Ken Durr, Linda (Dennis "Chip") Mroz, and Sheryl (Craig) Wisniewski; nine grandchildren, Jeffrey, Lindsay, Kendall, Kaylee, Clay, Cody, Michael, Joey, and Meradith; and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Velma Hallett. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Donald "Dewey" Durr; her special companion, Walter Schuhmacher; and two of her sisters.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their dedication and compassion during Doris' last months and to Gayle, her trusted aide and caregiver that she looked so forward to seeing each morning. The family would never have been able to keep her at home if it were not for these great persons. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
