Gale Williamson Obituary

WILLIAMSON Gale Gale Williamson, 78, of Perrysburg died Sunday, March 11, 2007, at St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo. He was born in Wayne, OH on September 29, 1928, to Earl and Martha (Peoples) Williamson and was married on August 12, 1956, in Archbold, Ohio to Marlyn Jane Buehrer who preceded him in death on November 22, 2005. Gale graduated from Pemberville High School, and later received a B.A. from Bowling Green State University, a M.S. from The Ohio State University and a J.D. from the University of Toledo. He first worked as an attorney with Toledo Trust as a trust officer, later served as a Wood County Assistant Prosecutor and also worked in private practice in Pemberville Ohio. Gale served for 24 years as an elected Wood County Common Pleas Court Judge and then served in retirement as a visiting judge. He was a member of the Courthouse Centennial Commission, the Courthouse Building and Grounds Committee, the Ohio Sentencing Commission, and the Regional Judicial Board for the Northwest Community Corrections Center. He received the 1999 Spirit of Wood County Award in the category of Liberty through Law/Human Freedom. He was also active in the Wood County Historical Society, and a member of the Falcon Club of BGSU and was a 50 year member of the Scottish Rite, F. & A. M. Grand Lodge. He is survived by his son, Lane (Christina) Williamson, Perrysburg, OH; daughter, Leslie (Marc) Woodard of Bellevue, OH; grandchildren, Paige, Hannah and Meredith Williamson, Madison and Landon Woodard; sister, Nancy (Russ) Heckman of Perrysburg, OH; cousin, Lee Harmon of Colorado Springs, CO and his fianc‚e, Ramona K. Abke of Bowling Green, OH. A half-brother and half-sister, Ivan and Florence, preceded him in death. Friends will be received from 2-9 p.m. on Wednesday in the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. S. Boundary, Perrysburg, OH (419-874-3133) where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 15, 2007. Burial will be private. Memorials may be made in the form of contributions to the American Parkinson's Disease Association, 135 Parkinson Ave., Staten Island, NY 10305 or the Bowling Green State University, College of Arts and Sciences Pre-Law Advising Program. I am saddened to learn of the passing of Judge Williamson. I always had the highest regard for his rulings and for him as an individual. He was a great asset to the Wood County legal system and he will be missed.
