Gene H. Gable, 77, of south Toledo passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2014, at the Manor of Perrysburg. Gene was born on December 25, 1936, in Liberty Twp. to Harold E. and Clara S. (Precht) Gable. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Napoleon. A 1954 graduate of Napoleon High School, Gene then went on and graduated from Toledo Barber College in 1955. Gene was also a U.S. Navy veteran and served on the USS Miller from 1955-1957 and was transferred to the naval reserves until 1961. He met and married his wife, Jean E. (Gautz) Gable, on April 16, 1961.

Following his service, Gene was the owner/operator of Gene's Barber Shop in Toledo from 1960-1972. He then went on to work for the Toledo Public Schools until his retirement in 1998. After retirement, he enjoyed wintering in Florida and golfing, managing twice to get a hole- in-one. He also loved bowling, pool, dartball and cards. A member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Gene was also a former member of the Toledo Sailing Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Janet (Ed) Kline. Gene is survived by his loving wife, Jean; children, Douglas L., David A. (Diana) and Nancy L. (David Hamilton) Gable; grandchildren, Ashley, Brittany, Rachael, Kyle and Kelsey and one great-grandchild, Hayden. He is also survived by sisters, Vivian Gable and Ilene (Charles) Claybaugh and many nieces, nephews and in-laws.

Friends may call on Thursday, September 4 from 3:00-8:00 p.m. at The Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Ave., where services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. The family would especially like to thank the wonderful staff of caregivers at the Manor of Perryburg. Those planning a memorial are asked to consider contributions to the Parkinson's Foundation.
