James D. Jr.

James D. Baker Jr., 68, of Toledo, passed away Thursday, February 28, 2013, at Heartland of Waterville. He was born in Toledo on November 2, 1944, to James D. and Edna (Hammick) Baker, Sr. and was a 1963 graduate of Macomber High School. James was an owner/ operator of several Checker Cabs and also was a truck driver. He was a gifted singer who enjoyed karaoke and dancing, but most of all he cherished spending time with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife, Norma J. (Coykendall) Baker whom he married November 21, 1988; children, James (Kristin) Baker, III, Dave (Tobey) Baker, Stephen (Lynn) Baker, Candy Baker, Jeremy (Valarie) Baker, Robert Hall, Marylou (Danny) Braden, Donald Hall, Jerry Brown, Rusty (Janice) Garufos, Brian (Shannon) Garufos, Tracy Garufos and Patty (Dave) Ferguson; forty-one grandchildren; many great-grandchildren, and sisters, Judith (Dave) Varnes, Patricia (Barney) Howe, Marge Spangler and Donna Alexander. James was preceded in death by parents; daughter, Linky, and brothers, Tom and Lonnie.

Friends and family may visit on Tuesday, March 5, 2013, from 2:00-8:00 p.m. in the Freck Funeral Chapel 1155 S. Wynn Rd. in Oregon, OH where the funeral service will begin at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made directly to his eldest son, James Baker III to help with funeral expenses.

Thank you Jim...thank you for being such a good man, such a good husband to mom and such a good grandfather to my children, for being such an important part of our family and our memories. I was already grown when you joined our family so I never thought of you as "Dad" but as grandpa to my kids...I'm glad you were part of their lives as far back as they can remember. We all love you and respect you so much. We can never express how much you came to mean to us over the years. We love you "Graypaw" I wish you could have stayed with us longer for many more bear-hugs and fun times. Heaven is lucky to have you, and Linky has her karaoke buddy once again.
